It was Ben Franklin, was it not, who said, "We've given you a republic, it's up to you to keep it?" And for over 200 yrs. we kept it, almost turning it into a democracy, even. But in the last 30 or so yrs., it's been turned into a corporatist state. I. e., we couldn't keep it. Shame, really.
