Tee Vee Eye

Here's some juicy stuff:
The low ebb came in 1957, when an L.A. County grand jury heard testimony about fudged contracts and trade-in scams, and indicted a dealer and more than a dozen of his associates. The dealer was H.J. Caruso, the father of future L.A. businessman, philanthropist and former mayoral candidate Rick Caruso. The elder Caruso pleaded guilty to what he thought was a deal for a misdemeanor, but there was no such deal, and Caruso and his lawyer couldn’t get the plea changed. Caruso went to jail for a year and was on probation until 1970, when his plea was changed to not guilty and the case was dismissed.
Eat poop Caruso. Like Giuliani, the spawn of criminal scum. At least America's Mayor's father was an honest stick-up man, not a lying, cheating used-car salesman. We dodged a bullet when Mayor Bass beat Rick's ass.

But enough hate-mongering. Found the above passage in this L.A. Times story.

Will L.A. ever produce more gimmicky, lovable pitchmen like Cal Worthington?

A walk down nostalgia lane (& up your ...) but a bit remiss in appreciation of Ralph Williams, esp. as it admits Cal was mocking Ralph to begin w/. Not much about Williams in our usual cursory search of the iNternet, but this about Williams has more.

Bonus from searching: All eight of the Firesign Theatre's Jack Poet VW TV adverts, & the rest of the story.

High School Madness Continues

Wasn't like this in the 1950s, but now no high school football game is safe.
A woman was wounded after apparently being hit by a stray bullet while attending a football game at a high school in South Los Angeles on Friday night, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Authorities said the shooting was reported around 9:21 p.m. in the area of 52nd Street and Avalon Boulevard.

An ambulance was requested, police said, but it was not clear whether the woman was taken to a hospital. Her condition is unknown.

No additional details were immediately available.

Hollywood trade publications have long been seen as PR tools for studios, but their stories during the WGA strike have absolutely shattered their credibility  —  If you were on the website-formally-known-as-Twitter last week, first of all, my condolences, we are in hell together, and second, you might have seen a flurry of furious tweets from TV and film writers. "Domestic Disturbance" Leads To Four Dead, Five Wounded (Two Critical)

No One Is Safe Anywhere

Four people were killed and six others were injured Wednesday evening in a shooting at a famed biker bar in Orange County, and the gunman — a retired police officer — was among the dead.

[...]

KCAL9 reported the gunman was a retired Ventura Police Department sergeant who opened fire as a result of a domestic disturbance with his wife at the bar, and the wife was one of the victims who was fatally shot. KCAL reported the gunman was a police officer from 1984 until 2014.

Th' hell? Isn't the 30-yr. police veteran supposed to be the "good guy w/ a gun"? Why, it's as if no one is to be trusted.

Another Galtian Superman To Rule Us All, & Save Us From “Modernist Philosophies And Heresies”

Rich Fantasy Life

This has the all too familiar reek of Papistry.
Jason Wilson / The Guardian:
US businessman is wannabe ‘warlord’ of secretive far-right men's network  —  Revealed: Charles Haywood, creator of the Society for American Civic Renewal, has said he might serve as ‘warlord’ at the head of an ‘armed patronage network’  —  The founder and sponsor of a far-right network of secretive, men-only, invitation-only fraternal lodges in the US is a former industrialist who has frequently speculated about his future as a warlord after the collapse of America, a Guardian investigation has found.

[...]

SACR’s public-facing presence is confined to a slick one-page website advertising the organization’s goal as “civilizational renaissance”, and a society “with strong leadership committed to family and culture”.

The site claims SACR is “raising accountable leaders to help build thriving communities of free citizens” who will rebuild “the frontier-conquering spirit of America”. It condemns “those who rule today”, saying that they “corrupt the sinews of America”, “[alienate] men from family, community, and God” and promising to “counter and conquer this poison”.

It also prominently features SACR’s cross-like insignia or “mark” which it describes variously as symbolizing “sword and shield” and the rejection of “Modernist philosophies and heresies”.
Good luck w/ that, Hitler wanna-be. Your cash will be nothing but trash after the "collapse", & cash, as well as the "rule of law", is all that's keeping your employees or servants from killing you right now. But keep dreaming.

Unhealthy Beach Conditions

Your society does nothing but generate filth & waste:
It is common for bacteria levels in coastal waters to increase after storms, as rainfall flushes contaminants such as litter, trash, fertilizers, pet waste, metals and car fluids from streets into the ocean via rivers, creeks and storm drains. Bacteria levels typically remain high for at least 72 hours after a storm. The risk of illness is higher for children and the elderly.

Projections show the storm has about a 50% chance of hitting Southern California late Sunday or early Monday as a tropical storm, meaning sustained winds at or above 39 mph. Much about the path and strength of the storm could still change in the coming days, officials warn.

Scene Of Another Crime

Once again, crime strikes near a location I frequent. A hotbed of crime, actually; used to buy reefer (illegally) across the street, ft. south of where I was shooting.

A group of 11 men robbed a luxury denim store on La Brea Avenue on Tuesday evening, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The robbery was reported at 6:55 p.m. at Ksubi, at 132 S. La Brea Ave.

Right before the store closed, a group of 11 men wearing masks entered the store and began taking clothes, according to authorities. Two security guards, who were unarmed, tried to stop the robbers but were unsuccessful. The guards reported that one of the men simulated a handgun in his pocket as a way to get them to stand down, the LAPD said.

An estimated $100,000 in goods was stolen from the high-end retailer.

The thieves fled in at least two cars, identified as a silver Lexus and a tan BMW, which drove off in opposite directions. Some of the stolen clothing was later found in an alley behind the store and was returned to the business.

The store is the latest to be hit with a “flash mob” robbery in the Los Angeles area, with other recent instances occurring at Saint Laurent in Glendale and Nordstrom at the Topanga Mall.

"Luxury denim", or overpriced jeans? You decide. (Isn't taking from the rich a good thing?)

Tuesday Tedium

San Francisco's Crime.

Local Legal Action

Not sure this is national news (Not that presenting it here will make it national.) but I wanted to share.
By the way, Mrs. Ferguson's not just shot, she's dead. Look at this shit.
The District Attorney’s Office said in a statement last week that prosecutors were concerned about a .22-caliber rifle registered to Ferguson that remained unaccounted for after officers removed 47 other weapons and about 26,000 rounds of ammunition from his home. Another rifle police missed was later turned in by defense attorneys, prosecutors said.

In a bail motion, Deputy District Attorney Christopher Alex said Ferguson shot his wife “through the chest in the living room of their home in Anaheim.”

The prosecutor alleged the judge used a “loaded .40 pistol that he pulled from his ankle holster. He shot her at close range. He did so while intoxicated. His adult son witnessed the homicide.”

The dispute began earlier in the evening while the couple argued during a dinner at a restaurant near their home, Alex said.

Ferguson “pointed his finger at his wife in a manner mimicking a firearm,” Alex said, adding that the conflict continued at home “periodically” for about an hour.

Referring to the hand gesture at dinner, Sheryl Ferguson allegedly said moments before her husband opened fire “words to the effect of: `Why don’t you point a real gun at me?”’ Alex alleged.

Ferguson “retrieved his pistol from his ankle holster and shot (his wife) center mass,” Alex alleged.

These are the people running your shithole country. Are you sheep proud of yourselves?

Who's A "Full-On Dick" Now, Dick?

Kee-rist, what an asshole. "You better recalculate, motherfucker!”"I went to four years of medical school and four years of residency!!" "I'm gonna call the governor tomorrow." Waiting for "Do you know who I am?" & "My dad owns a dealership."

Just another Saturday night at the rodeo, I guess.
Shortly after the encounter, Carson County Sheriff Tam Terry talked with Jackson by phone. According to the sheriff’s written report, Jackson repeatedly told Terry that there needed to be consequences for the deputies who had handcuffed him. After Terry responded that he didn’t need to be threatened, Jackson said that “he would pull hell and high water and come and ‘bury me in the next election,’ ” the sheriff wrote.

Jackson was elected in 2020 after gaining notoriety for his over-the-top pronouncements about then-President Donald Trump’s health while serving as a top White House physician. A year later, the Department of Defense inspector general released a scathing report about Jackson’s conduct while on the job at the White House.

The report concluded that Jackson made “sexual and denigrating” comments about a female subordinate, violated the policy on drinking alcohol on a presidential trip and took prescription-strength sleeping medication that prompted worries from his colleagues about his ability to provide proper medical care.

Jackson denied the allegations and said at the time that the report was a “political hit job.”
