Room For One More ... IN HELL!!

Still hrs. left in this yr. of painfully shitty inanity & morbidity. Anyone else just want to get it over w/ before it's too late?

A New Yr.'s Eve At Sangley Point

WED 31 DEC 1941
Admiral Chester W. Nimitz assumes command of Pacific Fleet in ceremonies on board submarine Grayling (SS-209) at Pearl Harbor.

Japanese submarines shell Kauai, Maui, and Hawaii.

While returning from attempting to aid destroyer Peary (DD-226) (see 28 December), small seaplane tender Heron (AVP-2) is damaged but fights off, over a seven-hour span, a series of attacks by Japanese reconnaissance flying boats (Toko Kokutai) and land attack planes off Ambon, N.E.I. Heron shoots down one seaplane whose crew refuses rescue.

Submarine rescue vessel Pigeon (ASR-6) transports armed party [Lieutenant (j.g.) Malcolm M. Champlin, USNR] to Sangley Point which brings out Luzon Stevedoring Company lighter loaded with 97 mines and eight truckloads of aerial depth charges Pigeon then tows the barge to a point four and a half miles off Sangley Point and capsizes it in 11 fathoms of water. The sailors also destroy the aircraft repair shop at Cavite and one irreparable PBY.

U.S. cargo/passenger ship Ruth Alexander, en route from Manila to Balikpapan, Borneo, is bombed and irreparably damaged by Japanese flying boat in Makassar Strait, N.E.I., 01°00'N, 119°10'W, one man is killed in the bombing. She sinks on 2 January 1942. Dutch Dornier 24 later rescues all 48 survivors.

Japanese destroyer Yamagumo is damaged by mine off Lingayen.

Philippine steamships Magellanes and Montanes are scuttled, most likely at Manila.

Stupid Wage-Slaves, Your Bosses Will Work You 'Til You're In Your Graves

Was not kidding when I wrote the headline 30-some yrs. ago.
Patrick Coffee / Adweek:
CEO of Dentsu, Japan's largest ad agency, says he will resign after government investigation into its culture of overwork  —  Dentsu chief executive officer Tadashi Ishii announced today that he will resign next month after leading the network for more than five years.
Let the punishment fit the crime: This reporter remembers when an honorable Japanese C.E.O. would have committed ritual suicide after causing the death of an employee. Or even after going bankrupt.

1,000 Words Worth

Trump & his buddy, 85-yr. old wretch, criminal & convicted manslaughterer Don King, who is, for reasons unknown, holding two American flags sandwiched between two Russian flags. Mr. King is also violating the U.S. Flag Code:
The flag should not be used as "wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery", or for covering a speaker's desk, draping a platform, or for any decoration in general (exception for coffins).

The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, firefighters, police officers, and members of patriotic organizations.
Think ol' Trumpy will take away King's citizenship?

West Remains Best, Coast Still Most

What's The Matter W/ California? Not A Goddamn Thing, Compared To Kansas or Texas!

Well, no whites have suffered more abrupt, rattling demotion than California’s. Yet, California whites, who have plenty of experience with actual immigrants, voted against Trump by a 5 percentage point margin. Reading and triangulating 2016 election exit polls shows Californian whites vote very differently from other whites around the country – including those in New York, a similarly affluent, educated Democrat bastion. New York whites supported Trump by a 6-point margin, a pro-Republican switch of 12 percentage points from 2008. At the opposite political node, Texas’ white folks may be tasting diversity but want none of it; they handed Trump a 43 percentage point landslide.

The stark absence of either a pro-Republican majority or rightward shift among California white voters in 2016 is unique. What makes West Coast whites different – particularly younger ones, whose voting approaches nonwhites’?

Californians certainly had past periods of racial animosity. In the 1980s and ’90s, a growing older white population fueled Republicans, their traditional defenders. Harsh anti-crime rhetoric, policing and prisons proliferated; taxes and schools were cut; immigrants politically lashed.

Today, more than a decade later, Republican office holders are vanishing from the Golden State. The surge in the older white population has ebbed. Youngsters are not stepping up. Among California white millennials (age 18-29) – the future of whiteness – Trump lost by better than 20 percentage points.

Clearly, Trump’s image of immigrant-driven drugs, rape and murder has not descended on increasingly multiracial California. Just the opposite. The decline in California’s white population has accompanied sharply falling rates of crime, violence, rape, gun deaths, school failure and related ills. Doubtless there’s no connection, but the ironies are staggering.

The biggest improvements are among younger and nonwhite populations, the ones most shaped by immigration. The worst social trends, especially for crime, gun deaths and drug overdoses, plague older, less educated whites – the population most likely to support Trump.
We really are wonderful, aren't we?

Local Action: No Snow &
"Another Fucking Brentwood"

From The Eastsider, by Dan Gershon.
It never snows in the Southland. Hasn't for 54 yrs., anyway, 'though there used to be snow about every decade before that. The storm of '62 also hit the S.F. Bay Area, where I was. Helluva surprise for the then eight-yr. old Bouffant to wake up on a Sunday morning & see snow on the ground. Made a snowperson, threw snowballs & everything.

Many pics of a snowy L.A. at the link, this is my favorite, from the 1921 storm. Doesn't appear La Brea continued north of Sunset then. A gas station now occupies where the two-story bldg. on the left is. Bldgs. on the right are the then-Chaplin Studios, which eventually became A&M Records & is now the Jim Henson Co.
Note also: Local avg. temperatures rising.

Why can't she her spawn attend public school? Is this unintentional irony or hypocrisy:
Kellyanne Conway is worried establishment elites in Washington, DC, are so prejudiced against President-elect Trump that she won’t be able to get her kids into private school in the nation’s capital.
Oh, never fucking mind then, she's not an "establishment" elite, just some stuck-up witch who doesn't want her children w/ the commoners.
While in DC on Wednesday with her kids looking at schools, Conway told me, “I would not characterize myself as ‘worried’ so much as amused by the silence and sighs on the other end of the phone when friends and allies have made preliminary inquiries on our behalf.”
Perhaps, Mrs. Conway, if you called these schools yourself, rather than outsourcing your parental duties to your elite cronies & connections, there wouldn't be as many silences & sighs. As in, "Sweet Jesus, another privileged & entitled creep who thinks she can use her elite connections to get her brats in here."
Mrs. C., not well lit & w/o tee vee make-up, 'cause that's just the kind of jerk we are!

No Wonder Trump Likes Netanyahu: They're Both Lying Crooks

Justice to be done? We bolded the good stuff.
Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit has reportedly approved a full criminal investigation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu into allegations of bribery and fraud.

Netanyahu will be investigated by police for two separate cases and will be called in for police questioning in the coming days, Channel 10 reported on Wednesday.

Asked by The Times of Israel, the Justice Ministry — under whose auspices the attorney general operates — declined to comment Wednesday evening on the report. There was no immediate response from the Prime Minister’s Office.

Earlier this month, Zionist Union MK Erel Margalit and Eldad Yaniv, a lawyer and Labor party activist, petitioned the High Court of Justice to demand the Attorney General answer why had not yet opened an investigation despite what they called “overwhelming evidence.”

Writing on Facebook hours before the Channel 10 report, Yaniv said that Mandelblit “realized there was no other choice but to open an investigation’ after meetings with senior investigators.

“The police have weighty proof linking Bibi to suspicions of bribery and fraud,” Yaniv wrote.

Police recently received new documents as part of a secret inquiry into the prime minister that began almost nine months ago, Channel 2 reported Tuesday. Based on those files, police turned to Mandelblit requesting that he agree to a full criminal investigation. The report stated that among the suspected offenses are bribe-taking and aggravated fraud.

In June, Police Commissioner Roni Alsheich gave his go-ahead to the hush-hush probe by the Lahav 433 anti-corruption unit, but demanded full cooperation on secrecy and that no details be leaked to the media.

Mandelblit also reportedly instructed employees in the state prosecutor’s office to look into allegations that Netanyahu accepted 1 million euros (about $1.1 million) from accused French fraudster Arnaud Mimran in 2009.

In May, State Comptroller Yosef Shapira issued a critical report on Netanyahu’s foreign trips, some of which were taken with his wife and children, from 2003 to 2005, when he was finance minister.

Earlier this month, in an apparently unrelated case, there were calls for the prime minister to be investigated for his role in a Defense Ministry deal to purchase submarines from a German company partly owned by the Iranian government.

The affair dominated public debate in the country last month, as accusations surfaced that the prime minister may have been swayed in the decision by business ties his personal counsel David Shimron had with the submarines’ builder, ThyssenKrupp. The purchase was opposed by parts of the defense establishment, including former defense minister Moshe Ya’alon.

On Sunday, police descended on the Defense Ministry to gather information relating to a ship-building contract with Germany, as part of a probe into how negotiations for multi-billion shekel naval deals were handled.
Whenever the right is in power, kleptocrats follow, New World & Old.

Hey, here's an idea! Let's have Philippine President Duterte throw Netanyahu out of a helicopter as he claims he will w/ corrupt Philippine officials. (Then if someone will push the Pres. out of the chopper immediately after ...)
“If you are corrupt I will fetch you with a helicopter and I will throw you out on the way to Manila,” he said in Filipino yesterday in a speech at the Camarines Sur provincial capital after he visited disaster-stricken areas affected by Typhoon Nina.

“I have done that before, why should I not do it again?” said Duterte ...
I dare say it's probably not too soon to call for the assassination of every head of state in this miserable world of shit & pain. Maybe not Canada's Justin Trudeau, but then again, he's part of a political family. Might not be a bad idea to exterminatenip all potential political dynasties in the bud while we're cleaning out the other scum.

Nihilism now!! (There are no remaining options.)

Yes yes, this is "old" news, but that doesn't make it any less relevant. Or less horrrifying. These bastards are pointing a gun at me; I have every right to stand my ground & shoot back. (And not w/ any sissy "votes", either.)

Paul Krugman / New York Times:

Only a slight indication above of their destructive plans for your Social Security, of course.

Thanks For Nothing, 2016!

I waited & waited; all day Xmas, & Boxing Day, & even yesterday, in case the delivery was late or whatever, but nothing. NOTHING!! No new teeth, no camera to replace my drowned one, no guns, no ammo, no money, no big damn two-axle truck w/ which to squash suburban squares on the sidewalk or at the Xmas market ... NOTHING!!

So. I have no friends (Which I should have realized when the people I knew let me become homeless, the rotten "homeowner" shits w/ their fucking houses.) & even mythical creations don't care.
But 2017 looks as if it will be a killer. Literally.

Because, dear non-friends, when there is no more Social Security or Medicare, & brain-dead brain surgeon Ben Carson has eliminated housing subsidies, I will be broke, on the street, & completely justified in giving myself carte blanche to kill & kill again. I figure if I can take 10 or 20 of you rat bastards w/ me it'll be more than worth it. But I'm thinking big. Anyone have any advice on making ricin? 💣Or have any spare dynamite? D For The Dearly Departed

Departed Flo danced w/ Dino.Dead Davie Jones hatin' on America.Look at this. It's as if hundreds (if not thousands, perhaps) of notable people die every wk.! Can you believe it?

One I may've missed but it's been so long (3 January this yr.) I can't be sure: Canuck jazz keyboardist Paul Bley.
In 1957 Bley stayed in Los Angeles where he led the house band at the Hillcrest Club. By 1958 the original band, with vibes player Dave Pike, evolved into a quintet with Bley hiring trumpet player Don Cherry, alto saxophonist Ornette Coleman, bassist Charlie Haden and drummer Billy Higgins
sez the Wikipedia. The YouTube states:
Just as the famous 1940-41 Jerry Newman recordings at Minton's and Clark Monroe's Uptown House captured the transition from swing to bebop, the music on this CD (compiled here on one set for the first time ever) marks one of the first steps from bebop into what would soon be called "free jazz". The whole quintet consisted of modern players working with the same concept: a freer way of playing jazz, which transcended the strict confines of melody, harmony and rhythm. They would create a whole new idiom by constructing music via the interplay of simultaneous collective improvisation.

Has there ever been a larger collection of has-beens, never-weres, nobodies & wanna-bes than the Trump Organization, the campaign & now the appointees?

Interesting sidebar: Lizard person/Trump "counselor" Kellyanne Conway apparently didn't get the memo about which gender its lizard masters have assigned it. "Other" men. Heh indeed.

Acorn Academy Update

Nope, Popular-Vote-Loser-Select Trump isn't "mentally ill", he is psychologically disturbed. Which sounds worse, actually. Shorter Stalinist condemnation of Trumpy-the-Toad.Longer one available at HuffPo. And a HuffPo update:
Note: A clinical psychologist wrote the author to confirm (and expand upon) the dire analysis of Dr. Lynne Meyer and the concerns of the three professors in this article. It is worth including here, especially her very unique perspectives on the role of Trump’s daughter Ivanka.

“Dr. Meyer is spot on in her assessment in the video. It is particularly good to hear her make the distinction between mental illness and personality disorders with their pervasive, inflexible, permanently fixed and incurable patterns of pathological behavior. This is one aspect of Trump’s problem that’s routinely misunderstood, even by some experts.

She also makes an excellent observation, among many, about Trump’s grandiosity being behind his refusal to have daily intelligence briefings.

Another, and related reason is the fact that he is cognitively so limited that such briefings make no sense to him (and that’s why he wants Ivanka, for example, or Jared with him during similar occasions, to help him understand what’s being said). Additionally, and also relatedly, his profoundly deficient attention makes it impossible for him to focus on any stimuli that do not provide him with adulation. He’s quickly bored by and dismissive of anything that does not have to do with himself.

The point about him getting worse in the future also cannot be overstated. An increasing paranoia combined with growing sadistic vindictiveness is pretty much a given. We have seen it consistently in other leaders, past and present, with this character defect.

And being so impulsive and without a conscience, he won’t stop for a moment before putting his primitive impulses into action. Those who believe that they can somehow “control” him, or that our democratic “checks and balances” can withstand the collusion between his personal pathology and that of his willing sycophants, are deluded, I’m afraid.

The man is unfit to run a lemonade stand, much less a country. That so many have decided to ignore his profound character defect, or turn it into an asset in their eyes, is horrific, but, sadly, not surprising”

S-38 Sinks Enemy Ship, For Variety

MON 22 DEC 1941
President Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Churchill open discussions in Washington (Arcadia Conference) leading to establishment of Combined Chiefs of Staff. The Arcadia Conference, which lasts into January 1942, results in a formal American commitment to the "Germany First" strategy. In addition, the United States and Britain agree to form a Combined Chiefs of Staff as the supreme body for Allied war planning, to confer regularly in Washington. The Anglo-American allies also agree that there should be one supreme commander directing operations in each theater.

Japanese bombers and attack planes, covered by fighters from carriers Soryu and Hiryu, bomb Wake Island for the second time; the last two flyable USMC F4Fs (VMF 211) intercept the raid. One F4F is shot down, the other is badly damaged.

American troops (Task Force South Pacific) (Brigadier General Julian F. Barnes, USA) arrive at Brisbane in convoy escorted by heavy cruiser Pensacola (CA-24). This is the first U.S. Army troop detachment to arrive in Australia.

Japanese submarine I-19 shells unarmed U.S. tanker H.M. Storey southwest of Cape Mendocino, California, 34°35'N, 120°45'W, but fails to score any hits and the American ship escapes.

Japanese commence invasion of Luzon, landing troops at Lingayen, P.I.; submarine S 38 (SS-143) torpedoes and sinks Japanese army transport Hayo Maru in Lingayen Gulf, 16°00'N, 120°00'E.
[This was moved two days & turned into a touching Xmas Eve story by The Silent Service, embedded here.]

USAAF B-17s bomb and damage Japanese army oiler No. 3 Tonan Maru off Davao, P.I.

TU 4.1.3 (Commander George W. Johnson), assumes escort duty at MOMP for convoy ON 47; the convoy is dispersed the following day.

Never have I been so happy (& completely, entirely justified) in hatin' on the loud-mouthed asshole minority that has convinced itself it is the real America & backed a confused, deluded & pridefully ignorant loser ("One of them! One of them!") into the White House.

At this point the anticipation of Inauguration Day & the almost immediate ruin of this nation of sheep (not to mention the more-than-zero possibility of atomic destruction of this world of shit & pain) is like waiting for an Xmas where was a chance (unlike this yr.) I'd get presents.
