RFK Jr. suggests Americans can more easily afford groceries if they start eating liver instead of beef:"Most of the cheap cuts of meat are very inexpensive. ... You can buy liver"
More like "Eat real shit, losers." No relief offered, just "Let them eat gâteaux* & groatcakes†." Why does this sick sumbitch hate America so?*Marie Antoinette didn't think all the Frogs had access to rich buttery cakes. She damn well meant "Eat shit".
In older culinary usage, a gâteau (plural gâteaux) did not strictly refer to a sweet layered dessert. Historically, it described basic baked blocks of flour and water eaten like bread.
With his Middle East crisis spiraling out of control, his domestic agenda totally stalled, and popularity in the sewer, Donald Trump is keeping his eye on the prize. “Almost every night in the White House,” the Wall Street Journal reports, “President Trump calls his fundraiser, Meredith O’Rourke, for an update. Trump asks O’Rourke which companies and donors have cut checks and which haven’t, and for how much.”
The donations come in by the millions and tens of millions—for his presidential library, his ballroom project, his political action committees. Trump may be a president, but America’s CEO class knows it’s still much safer—and more profitable, in the long run—to treat him like a king. Happy Friday
There is no Constitution but the Second Amendment. Everything else is a lie.
Local luminary, author of Brick's Picks for the L.A. Weekly & other writing, drummer & one-time friend Phillip "Brick" Wahl up & died, unexpectedly to me at least, leaving his wife of many yrs. And Jennifer Finch, bassist of L7 & photog, at 59, of "aggressive" brain cancer. She stopped by bar-be-ques at my party house w/ band-mate Suzi Gardner a couple of times, & rehearsed a rasslin' women event conceived & directed by Tequila Mockingbird on cardboard spread over the living room floor. People on F-book who knew her were quite broken up. Rolling Stone.
In a 2017 Rolling Stone profile of the band, she was described as “an ill-behaved and untrained bassist who added instant verve to their live act.”
Rest of the month: Studio tenor giant Plas Johnson, who made 92, & a few others who created good stuff & lived into their late seventies & eighties.
The Independent is unsettled. Does Lumpy hire people he's seen on the telly because they're such good boot-lickers?
Trump was reading from a piece of paper in front of him for this entire appearance, but when he did attempt to go off-script, it went very quickly awry. This policy is for “the amazing veterans who are with the — with, with us — they’ve just been with us from the day they were born, I suspect,” he said, in a trailing aside.
It was pure nonsense, even by the standards of Trump. It was so weird that I had to listen to it back to make sure I'd heard what I thought I'd heard.
“American highways and roadways have been terrorized” by immigrant drivers, he continued, who were driving “big rigs. Rigs like that—” At this point, a large truck caught his eye and he continued, “—Wow, that sucker is a big one. That’s big stuff.”
Trump is known for peppering his speeches with such interruptions, but these had a low energy to them and an undercurrent of confusion. Sure, he could read out from the paper that “radical left maniacs” have given out commercial licenses to people here illegally, and claim that an immigrant from Haiti who caused the death of an American citizen was “let in by Joe Biden.” But when he needed to elaborate, he could only say that such aliens had caused “many, many deaths, too many to talk about.”

Luckily, transportation secretary Sean Duffy was there to add his own two cents. Jumping in with vigor, Duffy painted a suitably horrifying picture of the vulnerable American family being preyed upon by evil, English-eschewing migrants with designs on their two most sacred activities, Christian worship and mass consumption: “When these illegals were driving these big rigs, they were killing American citizens,” he yelled.
Whether you were “a family going to Walmart or going to church on a Sunday,” you were liable to be run down at every turn.
[...]
This extended show of fealty — which took up almost as much time as the talk about opportunities for veterans — earned Duffy a nod from the president, and presumably protected him from his ire. But this, combined with the frail delivery from Trump, pointed to something alarming: a president who increasingly loses his train of thought, who struggles to make the quick quips and connections he once did, and a surrounding team that is sycophantic to the point of absurdity.
It’s pretty obvious that there isn’t just a lack of pushing-back within the Trump cabinet; there’s a demand for time-wasting, toadying displays of OTT loyalty. There’s also clearly pressure to look the other way, to paper over the cracks when the president flounders.
The ‘Freedom Haulers’ thing, by the way, is nothing new. It’s simply an extension of an older policy, and there’s very little proof that it will do much for the economy, for immigration, or for veterans. But listen, the amazing veterans have been with us since the day they were born, and Donald Trump is a masterclass. Hand on heart, is there anything more you need to hear than that?
We’ve Officially Entered the Twilight of Late-Stage Trumpism
It’s all there in a new CNN poll, and it’s heartening to see: Large majorities are sick of Donald Trump’s vanity, venality, and megalomania.
Just as long as Nebuchadrezzar dies during the upcoming Democratic Socialist administration that will give him the funeral & day of national celebration/mourning he deserves.
Arlene Smith, one of the first “girl group” stars who as a teenager and a founder of the Chantels co-wrote and sang lead on the 1950s doo-wop classic “Maybe,” has died at 84.
When the hell was tagging supplemented by stickering, anyway? I s'pose it's because spray paint is age-restricted in Calif., but the yout' found a way around it.
“We’re in the realm where we might be essentially killing off everything within that first hour or two,” said Brandon Johnson, a Purdue University planetary scientist and study co-author.
Chicxulub would have immediately wiped out all life within a wide radius of its impact along the Cretaceous–Paleogene boundary, the geological demarcation between the age of the dinosaurs and the Cenozoic era. Traveling at a rate of speed of about 12 miles-per-second, the asteroid struck Earth with the equivalent force of 100 teratons of TNT—more than one billion times the strength of the atomic blasts at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The blast created a 62-mile-wide, 19-mile-deep cavity while generating two-mile-high tsunamis and 620 mph winds. Around 25 trillion metric tons of debris rocketed into the atmosphere, which then rained down on Earth as fiery missiles called spherules to set forests ablaze.
French firefighters were still battling a wildfire four times the size of Paris cutting through forests west of Bordeaux on Wednesday. (AP video by Alexander Turnbull)
Factoid: The city of Light itself is pretty petite, 6 miles (9.5 km) north-to-south and 7 miles (11 km) east-to-west. The Euros won't have to worry about wildfires as much when there's a major slowdown or shutdown of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) — the broader ocean conveyor belt that includes the Gulf Stream — driven by melting polar ice and freshwater dilution. Is AMOC pronounced "amok"?
Christian preachers are turning airplanes into unwanted worship services — Evangelists are exploiting captive audiences who can't walk away—and broadcasting it online — What is it about being in an enclosed space, surrounded by people who can't escape, that makes evangelical Christians even more insufferable than usual?
All of this reeks of Christian privilege. These kinds of stunts would never be tolerated—even for a moment—if the evangelists weren’t Christian.
It’s telling that these Christians believe a captive audience is the best way to spread their message. They’re basically admitting other people wouldn’t listen to them otherwise. The only thing they accomplish with their impromptu sermons is reminding people why they should avoid Christians when they have the option.
Are there no Air Marshals? Damn jet travel. W/ a nice four-engine turboprop the 'plane could be slowed enough that such people could be safely tossed out an open door.
The Burned Over District hasn't posted anything for almost three months. Anyone know what's up? Or even care?
Last waltz from montag?
Worst case is what I expect will happen to me; I'll turn green & die in the bunker & no one will notice or care until decomposition & the dump begins to smell, or until the rent goes unpaid.
That's me; w/o meaning, interest or concern to anyone but the parasite slumlord, whose only interest is in extracting his pound of flesh every month. Considering what my existence has been for the past 70 or so yrs., I expect no better from the lumps of insensate tissue that comprise the dominant species on this miserable planet of fools & charlatans.
Yes, I made it about me. (Not much to work from.) And you knobs everything about yourselves. Why should I bother being any better than any of you?
Non-government by a senile 80-yr. old who was born human garbage, a bunch of brain-dead twenty-nothing anti-social media "influencers", a delusional fuckhead who thinks some fairy in the sky is talking to him (Item below.) & the lawless, post-Constitutional Supreme Court. Now you'll get it, good & hard.
Is this shithole nation just screwed, or poked in the poop-chute forever?
House Speaker Mike Johnson says he grows more confident "with each passing day" that the GOP will retain control of Congress. Why? "This is a God thing. We have intercessory prayers who are on the ground at the Capitol praying."
"We"? Is the House paying for this praying?
They lie to themselves & they lie to you, every day of the wk. & twice on Sunday. String up the theocrats before they send you to the MAGA Inquisition!!
Spent almost an hr. post-shooting fiddling w/ sectional & flex-track before suspending operations. But one line is almost going & I've proved w/ geometric logic it won't need added feeds.
Other modeling stuff:
Also, at some point you need to decide if you are content being a casual recreationalist or if you want to move to the next level. It’s your call. No judgement. That said, if you want to move forward, you need to get out of your comfort zone, buy that sixty-buck airbrush, and get comfortable with it.
Easy, Lance. Sounds a bit judgemental to me who, picky as I am, fully intend to remain in my "casual recreationalist comfort zone". No desire to obtain an air-brush, but I did click the "sixty-buck airbrush" link out of curiosity, to find it's a) Amazon; b) $199.99, not any "sixty bucks". Ha!
Don't have the space, don't need the noise.
I'll stick w/ washes & powders; my primary interest in weathering is eliminating gloss & shine on rolling stock, not creating1:87 works of art. Avoided a soldering iron so far too, but if the track continues its recalcitrance ...
Going to the corner for milk yesterday I spotted Xmas lights in a cardboard box & decided I could use the wire if nothing else. Well, they work & are battery-powered, so don't waste your money on Woodland Scenics JustPlug® or Dioramo® lighting systems. My curiosity piqued, I checked battery-powered wired LEDs & found piles, some powered by AAs, some by D cells, & some by hearing aid batts. Turns out the above suckers are made by Greenbrier International, Inc., a subsidiary of Dollar Tree. (Or it's Dollar Tree's parent co. Fucking robots.) All plastic; the only metal is the wiring & whatever's in the battery pack. The biggest deal to me is the self-containment. Everything's in the structure, no connecting to an external power source, so no wall-warts, extension cords or added LED wiring are needed.
This looks as if six bldgs. could be illuminated for $40.00. W/ 30 lights per string, six huge industries could be lit, or a small structure could be overdone until it caught fire.
Hoo boy, now Woodland Scenics is offering this; the video came out two months ago, but the system can't be searched on their crummy site; you have to look in the "Coming Soon" area. No prices yet, but an arm & a leg should cover it fairly easily. Speakers, sound cards & readers &c. will be just a smidge more than a transformer, control box & LEDs. Might not be easily duplicated at a bargain store.P.S.: If you do want the tried & true, I compared the Just Plug® & Dioramo® MSRPs sometime last yr.; Dioramo was a bit less expensive & their system seems more open to using non-Dioramo LEDs & the like. Or, Dwarvin & their fiber-optic "no wires" system. Tain't cheap neither.
Reading from prepared remarks honoring the Dodgers' title defense, Trump rattled off a string of stats — the team's Tokyo season opener, a record-breaking travel schedule, and a historic 229-day season — before admitting he had no idea what any of it actually meant.
"I don't know," he said. "That's a different kind of a fact mark than I ever heard of, but that's what they give me to read. So what can I tell you?"
"220 the longest season ever," he added. "I don't know what the hell that means."
Nor could he figure it out. Thought he was smart, played baseball at the military academy where he was shipped & could have been a major league prospect. What a lying sack of shit. This reporter has no idea what the hell "fact mark" means either. How stupid can a life form be?
The only "Commies" Trump should worry about are post-Communist China & their economic powerhouse that Fat Don furthers every day w/ his pathetic ignorance, incompetence & flailing about.
You scum have brought nothing but murder, rape, pillage, war, violence, abuse, lying, cheating, stealing & stupidity to this world, & are making the very planet an unlivable hellworld. Fuck alla y'all up the ass w/ a splintery broomstick!!
Funny how no one ever refutes this or similar statements. Can't handle the truth, can you, grain-dead idiots?
Can't stop his fat ignernt mouth, either. Ohtani has barely played the outfield,
Shohei Ohtani has played the outfield, but only sparingly in the major leagues. He made 7 brief defensive appearances in the outfield (6 in right field, 1 in left field) during the 2021 season with the Los Angeles Angels, totaling about 8 1/3 innings without recording a putout.
Earlier in his professional career in Japan with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, he played the outfield much more frequently, logging 64 total games across left and right field before shifting to strictly pitching and designated hitting.
but Lumpy has to make him the best outfielder ever. Fat Gay Don likes Ass. Football or greased-up, almost-naked furrin men hugging & hitting each other, so he doesn't know a damn thing about American sports. I hope he hasn't cursed the former Bums of Brooklyn w/ his ignorance. At least he'll probably be too scared to come to L.A. for home games during the Series.
Gee-ziz, read this: "Antifa". "MS-13". "They [sic] NWO will not have mercy on anyone." Sure. But how did they forget ISIS or whatever the Islamist threat was at the time?
Humanoids have been moronic, paranoid Bizarros since the beginning of human history. Did those post-election riots happen in 2016? Why, no. Not until 6 January 2021. EAIAC.
To the New Right, this abolition was unilateral disarmament in the still-frosty Cold War—and it removed a valuable cudgel against the domestic left. The Heritage Foundation’s Mandate for Leadership transition plan called to “revive the committees"“ and to rebuild of the internal security apparatus to battle domestic subversion, warning that clergymen, students, businessmen, entertainers, labor officials, journalists and government workers may engage in subversive activity "without being fully aware of the extent, purpose or control of their activities," and that individual liberties are "secondary to the requirement of national security and internal civil order.” The author of this section was one Samuel T. Francis, whothe would go on to be a staffer for [Sen.] John East.
The absolute joke that is fear of "Sharia law" is revealed by (non-) reaction to the Saud family's investment in the creation of the Paramount/WB/Discovery media cartel. All lies & hypocrisy.
Future book title: Lying Sacks of Shit & The Sucker-Ass Chumps Who Believe Them. Could be a long one.Note to self: Stop looking at the damn iNternet, seeing how stupid & shitty everything is, & thinking you have to type something. Remember, no one cares! Back to your second childhood, & to hell w/ the rest of this miserable world!
So effing exhausted, & sick & tired of typing crap here for neither reason nor reward. And of course every time I express myself &/or the truth I am at risk of being taken into custody & condemned to the psychiatric gulag, Soviet-style. What a shithole country. Proud of yourselves? Or just so fucking dense you have no fucking idea what's going on around you?
Here's a good one, from October 2009:
"Easy". Same paranoid sissy-pants bullshit for decades. You fucking cretins, I despise you all!!
These stupid jerks are trying to scare the chumps about Cuba. Yes, Cuba, giant, powerful Commie island to the south, & its "influence" & "infiltration".
Rubio is promising that the administration is going to be naming more groups as "terrorist organizations" and going after their funding, which they claim comes from foreign governments. The ideological criteria is broad: "This is what radical leftism is. It may wear various different slogans and ideologies across place and time. They can call themselves anti-capitalist or anti-imperialist or communist or anarchist or Marxist." Except it's not illegal to believe any of those things. You can be a communist in the United States. It's allowed. Or it used to be.
And the net is going to get wider and wider and "communist" is going to mean "wants health care for everyone," and this effort is going to work hand-in-hand with the voter suppression efforts, one being used as an excuse for the enforcement of the other. Rubio teed it all up: the coming pretext to destroy everyone on the left.
These are America’s 10 worst states to live in for 2026
States of the former Confederacy, plus Oklahoma, Utah (not a state then) & Indiana; somewhat surprising until I remembered it was a Klan hotspot in the 1920s.
The Ku Klux Klan held immense political and social power in Indiana during the 1920s, with an estimated 300,000 members—representing roughly a third of the state's native-born white male population.
Guessing all these hellholes have Republicans as Goobernators & legislatures dominated by idiotic right-wingers.
And the biggest loser is:
America’s Worst Place to Live in 2026: Tennessee
And I'd heard so much about Nashville being a "hot", burgeoning cultural center, like Branson, MO but w/ less Jesus. Great for crackers, sure.
Tennessee Republicans, led by Gov. Bill Lee, make no apologies for a rash of state laws targeting the LGBTQ+ community, including a so-called “bathroom law” requiring transgender people to use the facilities designated for their sex at birth. The state also explicitly bars localities from adopting their own antidiscrimination ordinances. To underscore the point, Lee signed a resolution earlier this year designating June “Nuclear Family Month.”
“The nuclear family, consisting of one husband, one wife, and any biological, adopted, or fostered children, is God’s design for familial structure and has been the bedrock of society since the creation of the world,” the resolution states.
Its sponsors deliberately timed the observance to coincide with the month when Tennessee’s more than 300,000 LGBTQ+ people celebrate Pride.
Inclusiveness isn’t the only area where the Volunteer State falls short. Tennessee also has one of the highest violent crime rates in the nation, according to FBI statistics. And it has the third-highest rate of drug deaths, according to the United Health Foundation.
Who'd a thunk CNBC would be full of low-T lib sissies who are so concerned about the pervs?
All violent language & name-calling: "Wrecks". "Brutal". "Moron". That certainly refutes her point, other than it being true.
Un-democratic institutions like the Senate & Supreme Court that are "key" to keeping Whitey, the aristocrats & other scum in power should absolutely be abolished, & the sooner the better. That puts their undies in the proverbial twist, & it's why anything that keeps Democrats out of office will be legitimate in their eyes. Are you scared yet?
Protesters in Venice have clashed with police over the presence of a luxury yacht owned by U.S. ambassador Tilman Fertitta. They see it as a symbol of American wealth and influence. Some physicians and researchers questioned the move and said some of Hegseth’s statements on testosterone Wednesday were not backed by research. Testosterone levels vary naturally over time, and it is unusual to screen patients for low testosterone unless there are symptoms, they said.
“This is non-evidence-based and could cause harm,” said Adriane Fugh-Berman, a professor in the department of pharmacology and physiology at Georgetown University.
The framing fits neatly within a growing trend of hormonal obsession on the right. Over the past several years, in corners of the internet, media, and politics devoted to an exacting vision of masculine supremacy, testosterone has become a substance of mythical importance. Calling a political opponent or message-board adversary “low-T” is the new “soy boy,” “beta,” or “gay.” Right-wing influencers are touting dubious pills that promise to increase testosterone production for more energy, bigger muscles, and better boners. The Trump administration is bragging that the president has the highest T level Dr. Oz has ever seen in a man over 70.
All this is befitting of a political movement that wants to eliminate gender-affirming medical care and gets its health advice from the supplement ads on Tucker Carlson’s podcast. In the eyes of Hegseth and his peers, testosterone isn’t just a sex hormone present in most human beings or a potential gauge of underlying health issues. It’s a magic manly potion, an indisputable indicator of sexual power, a tool for turning matcha-swilling weaklings into musclebound superheroes incapable of expressing any emotion but rage.
Funny, I doubt if there's any testeosterone left in my wretched body, but I can assure you I am a blue-hot ball of screaming rage!
