Getting In Cars W/ Strangers
Shouldn't the driver be doing hard time?Couple Allege Uber Driver Stabbed Them After One Vomited in Car
According to the complaint, the couple were being driven home last Sept. 25 after a night out with friends when Hakobyan became nauseous during the trip and vomited in the vehicle’s back seat. The plaintiffs apologized and offered to pay the Uber driver to clean the vehicle, but the driver instead “became extremely aggressive” and refused to take the pair home, the suit states.
“Plaintiffs protested and begged the driver take them to their destination and ensured that the driver would be adequately compensated for her troubles,” according to the suit.
Rather than de-escalate the situation, the driver took out a knife and stabbed her passengers multiple times and both needed medical care, the suit states.
Today In The Class & Culture Wars: “Writing off San Francisco”
Alissa Quart / Columbia Journalism Review:A look at the “journalism of privilege” in real estate and food, which can at times replace reporting on ordinary people's experiences of essential human needs — Celebrity-owned $25,000 glass-door fridges; hotel owners “writing off San Francisco” as the market drops …@evictionlab: “Real estate is not just large owners and developers... It's also refinancing, foreclosures, modest homeowners, anyone who has a home or wants a home.” By @lisquart. Via @cjr https://www.cjr.org/...@econhardship: When real estate journalists cite “experts,” they're quoting property investors—not renters or working class homeowners. There's a reason why that's the norm, and in @CJR, EHRP's @lisquart describes what this reporting can (and should) look like instead https://www.cjr.org/...Hollis Robbins / @anecdotal: Terrific by @lisquart. Six fucking yrs. to punish a pair of corporate parasites who were extending professional courtesy to other parasites? Arbitration my ass!British tourist awarded $375,000 after suffering hundreds of bed bug bites at infested Hollywood Hills home
The tourist, Meshak Moore, at first believed the marks on his body were from mosquito bites, but four weeks after waking up with itchy welts on his skin he discovered his mattress was infested with hundreds of bugs and nests that he recorded in a video he submitted as evidence.“I’ve been sleeping in this for a month, getting bitten,” he is heard saying in the video when he discovered the bugs, according to court records filed Friday. “Look. Look.”
The arbitration decision, signed June 29 by Robert Bare, a judge with the American Arbitration Assn., came after six years of litigation between Moore and Henry Huang and Robert Norris of Bamboo Retreats LLC, the owners of the house in the 2000 block of Vasanta Way. Moore was in Los Angeles for an extended vacation, renting part of the house occupied by Huang and Norris.

Next: No contraception, missionary-style only, pregnancy required.Nick Robertson / The Hill:Pence says abortion should be banned for nonviable pregnancies — Former Vice President Mike Pence said abortions in the case of nonviable pregnancies should be banned, taking a hard stance on abortion policy, which has served as an emphasis of his campaign. — “I'm pro-life. I don’t apologize for it,” Pence said in a recent interview. “I just have heard so many stories over the years of courageous women and families who were told that their unborn child would not go to term or would not survive. And then they had a healthy pregnancy and a healthy delivery.”
