Robert David Steele, a former CIA officer turned conspiracy theorist who claimed to be the first person to call COVID-19 a hoax, has died from COVID-19.

Steele, who was among the earliest QAnon promoters and helped the conspiracy theory move from the fringes of the internet into the mainstream, was hospitalized with symptoms of COVID-19 earlier this month. But he continued to spread anti-vaccine and COVID-denial conspiracy theories until the end.

“I will not take the vaccination, though I did test positive for whatever they’re calling ‘COVID’ today, but the bottom line is that my lungs are not functioning,” Steele wrote in his final blog post on August 17, accompanied by a picture of him hooked up to what appears to be a ventilator.

“We will never be the same because now we know that we’ve all been lied to about everything,” Steele added. “But, now we also know that we can trust each other. I’m alive today because I had a network that put me into a good hospital in Florida.”

Rep. Cawthorn talks of 'bloodshed' over future elections as he pushes voting lies

Washington (CNN) — Republican Rep. Madison Cawthorn on Sunday suggested there could be "bloodshed" over future elections as he pushed false claims about election security and voter fraud.

Speaking at a North Carolina county GOP event, Cawthorn repeated the lie about US election systems being "rigged" and "stolen," something he said would "lead to one place, and that's bloodshed" if it continued.

"And I will tell you, as much as I am willing to defend our liberty at all costs, there's nothing that I would dread doing more than having to pick up arms against a fellow American. And the way that we can have recourse against that is if we all passionately demand that we have election security in all 50 states," the North Carolina Republican continued.

There is no evidence of mass voter fraud, as Republican election officials around the country and Trump-appointed former Attorney General William Barr have acknowledged.

But as GOP lawmakers have embraced former President Donald Trump's election lies, US intelligence agencies believe that the "narratives of fraud in the recent general election" and "the emboldening impact of the violent breach of the US Capitol" will "almost certainly" spur domestic extremists to try to engage in additional acts of violence this year, according to the unclassified summary of a new joint assessment released earlier this year.

Cawthorn spokesman Luke Ball told CNN in a statement Monday, "Congressman Cawthorn is CLEARLY advocating for violence not to occur over election integrity questions."

"He fears others would erroneously choose that route and strongly states that election integrity issues should be resolved peacefully and never through violence," Ball said.

Cawthorn's comments Sunday contradict his earlier concession that there was no fraud in the 2020 election after he voted to sustain the objection to electoral votes from Arizona and Pennsylvania when Congress met to certify then President-elect Joe Biden's victory. On Sunday, Cawthorn said that "anybody who tells you that Joe Biden was dutifully elected is lying to you."

"Yes, I think I would say that the election was not fraudulent," he told CNN in January.

"You know, the Constitution allowed for us to be able to push back as much as we could and I did that to the amount of the constitutional limits that I had at my disposal. So now I would say that Joseph R. Biden is our president," he added at the time.

Ball maintained Monday that "Congressman Cawthorn's views on the 2020 election have remained consistent."

"He raised objections to electors from several states in January because he had severe concerns about how the elections were conducted and how laws were changed last-minute to favor Democrats," he said.

Man and woman hospitalized after shooting between boat and jet skis on St. Johns River, deputies say

ASTOR, Fla. — A man and a woman were shot after an altercation between people on a boat and jet skis on the St. Johns River on Saturday, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting occurred around 4:35 p.m. in the area of the Midway Marina.

Lake County deputies responded along with deputies from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.

The two people who were shot in the incident were airlifted to a hospital for treatment with life-threating [sic] injuries, deputies said.

Deputies said three people are in custody, including one person who was taken to a hospital for medical issues.

The shooting is currently under investigation and no other details were released.

Apparently a collection of cretins will be protesting "COVID-19 vaccine mandates" in Santa Monica this Sunday.

Billed as a “worldwide rally for freedom” and a “rally against medical tyranny,” the midday Sunday event will be held a week after hundreds of people gathered at Santa Monica’s Tongva Park for a similar protest. There were no reports of violence during that gathering — a sharp contract to a protest in downtown Los Angeles a week earlier that was marred by fistfights and a stabbing.

A man killed by Redondo Beach police Wednesday night randomly targeted people on the pier in a hail of gunfire, authorities said a day after the shootings.

Police officers from across the South Bay raced to the Redondo Beach Pier about 8:20 p.m. after a flood of 911 calls reported an active shooter firing at peoplein the shopping and dining hot spot.

Once there, they found a teenage boy and his relative, both of whom had been shot in their lower torsos. The two were taken to a nearby trauma center and were listed in stable condition Thursday morning with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to investigators.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s homicide investigators said the victims were on the pier when a man walked past them and then pulled out a firearm and began indiscriminately shooting.

The gunfire sent bystanders running and others dropping to the ground and lying prone on the pier.

Joe Granda had just sat down with his brother for dinner at Tony’s on the Pier when they heard about five sharp cracks. His brother thought someone was setting off firecrackers, but Granda knew what the sounds were.

Everyone in the restaurant ducked under their tables, he said.

About five to 10 minutes later, Granda said he saw police swarm the pier and take up positions on the roofs of nearby restaurants and other establishments.

He said he saw a man he believes was the shooter hurtle over a railing and onto rocks below the pier, with officers in pursuit.

He said he then heard roughly five gunshots and saw the man stumble.

Police said they tried to get the man, who was standing atop massive boulders on the shoreline, to surrender. The man was armed with both a handgun and a knife and ultimately was struck in the upper torso by police gunfire, authorities said.

“From what I can tell, this was a legitimate active shooter, and we were very lucky we don’t have any deaths as a result,” Redondo Beach Chief Keith Kauffman said.

The suspect, who was described only as a man in his 30s, did not seem to know the people he had fired on, sheriff’s Lt. Brandon Dean said. “It was indiscriminate shooting.”
