It is only a matter of time before the Earth is hit by another geomagnetic storm. A Carrington Event-size storm would be extremely damaging to the electrical and communication systems worldwide with outages lasting into the weeks. If the storm is the size of the Miyake Event, the results would be catastrophic for the world with potential outages lasting months if not longer. Even with space weather warnings from NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center, the world would have only a few minutes to a few hours notice.I believe it is critical to continue researching ways to protect electrical systems against the effects of geomagnetic storms, for example by installing devices that can shield vulnerable equipment like transformers and by developing strategies for adjusting grid loads when solar storms are about to hit. In short, it’s important to work now to minimize the disruptions from the next Carrington Event.

How Many Rallied At Nuremberg?
Folks, I hate to say it, but it looks like Vladamir Putin might be more popular in Russia than Joe Biden is popular in the United States.While the Biden administration attempts to make Putin an outcast, it appears that Putin is as popular as ever in Russia.
The crowd was larger than any crowd that Joe Biden has ever attracted.
Joe Biden could hardly fill a high school stadium during a campaign.
In fact, there were numerous appearances when fewer than a dozen people showed up.
But despite being criticized by the West, Putin was able to draw tens of thousands of adoring Russians to his pro-war rally.
Of course, this is NOT to say that I or anyone supports (or should support) Putin.
That is not the point.
Rather, the point is to show how weak of a leader Joe Biden is.
People want to see a strong leader.
Even if we don’t agree with Putin, the Russian people clearly like him because of his strength.
But Joe Biden has no strength.
And that’s why the American public is turning away from him.
And unfortunately, that’s why the world appears to be turning away from America.

Here’s how ABC News covered Putin’s massive rally:
Vladimir Putin appeared at a huge flag-waving rally at a packed Moscow stadium Friday and lavished praise on his troops fighting in Ukraine, three weeks into the invasion that has led to heavier-than-expected Russian losses on the battlefield and increasingly authoritarian rule at home.
Meanwhile, the leader of Russia’s delegation in diplomatic talks with Ukraine said the sides have narrowed their differences. The Ukrainian side said its position remained unchanged.
The Moscow rally came as Russian troops continued to rain lethal fire on Ukrainian cities, including the capital, Kyiv, and pounded an aircraft repair installation on the outskirts of Lviv, close to the Polish border.
“Shoulder to shoulder, they help and support each other,” the Russian president said of the Kremlin’s forces in a rare public appearance since the start of the war. “We have not had unity like this for a long time,” he added to cheers from the crowd.
The show of support amid a burst of antiwar protests inside Russia led to allegations in some quarters that the rally — held officially to mark the eighth anniversary of Russia’s annexation of Crimea, which was seized from Ukraine — was a manufactured display of patriotism.
Several Telegram channels critical of the Kremlin reported that students and employees of state institutions in a number of regions were ordered by their superiors to attend rallies and concerts marking the anniversary. Those reports could not be independently verified.
Moscow police said more than 200,000 people were in and around the Luzhniki stadium. The event included patriotic songs, including a performance of “Made in the U.S.S.R.,” with the opening lines “Ukraine and Crimea, Belarus and Moldova, it’s all my country.”
Seeking to portray the war as just, Putin paraphrased the Bible to say of Russia’s troops: “There is no greater love than giving up one’s soul for one’s friends.”
Taking to the stage where a sign read “For a world without Nazism,” he railed against his foes in Ukraine as “neo-Nazis” and continued to insist his actions were necessary to prevent “genocide” — a claim flatly denied by leaders around the globe.
Video feeds of the event cut out a times but showed a loudly cheering crowd that broke into chants of “Russia!”

This appears to suggest that Putin remains hugely popular in Russia.
The fact that that many people showed up at a Rally, cheered Putin, and publicly supported the war tells us that the Russian people appear to support Putin.
While the media is claiming that our sanctions are turning the Russian people against Putin, the rally suggests otherwise.
There are rumors that Putin has cancer or is dying.

The rumors suggest that Putin is only being aggressive because he is actually really weak.
But would a weak person be able to hold a rally and speak to a crowd that large.

It’s sad to see apparent weakness in the White House.
Obviously, rallies aren’t everything.
But a rally represents your strength as a leader and a politician.
It also represents whether or not you have the support of your people.
And well, even today, I doubt that Joe Biden could even fill a high school stadium.

Alleged Koala-Killing Lion

I'd guess it's mating season, & the poor bastard seems to be involuntarily celibate.Silver Lake had an unusual visitor Tuesday night — a mountain lion.Residents of the hilly Los Angeles neighborhood reported sightings on social media and warned neighbors to be aware and stay cautious if they were out walking.
Marianna Palka, who lives on Berkeley Circle, just a few hundred feet from busy Silver Lake Boulevard, told The Times that she had never seen a mountain lion in the area and thought it was unusual.
The sightings occurred after 7 p.m., said Palka, who added that one of her neighbors called authorities. She wasn’t sure whether her neighbor got through.
Chris Blim, who also lives on Berkeley Circle, said he was standing in the street talking to his friend when something triggered a light on his neighbor’s doorbell camera.
He and the creature locked eyes. At first he thought the animal was a coyote, but he quickly realized it was a mountain lion, Blim said.
“We’re just standing there looking at each other and the light goes off,” he said. “The only thing you see is the eyes, and that’s when the heart drops. This is not a house cat.”
Blim said he took a video of the itinerant feline on his phone. He and his friend then moved to the safety of Blim’s home, where they knew they’d at least have a gate between them and the cougar.
Both Blim and Palka said many residents are speculating that the mountain lion is Griffith Park’s famed P-22, a male cougar that has made many appearances in neighborhoods in and around the Hollywood Hills over the last decade. A trek into Silver Lake, however, would take the cougar well out of the relative safety of the park and farther into the core of Los Angeles.
Researchers believe P-22 is originally from the Santa Monica Mountains, born to P-1 and an unnamed female lion.
Somehow, he found his way to Griffith Park around 2012, meaning he embarked on a journey most Angelenos undertake to get across town — he crossed the 405 and 101 freeways.
His tawny good looks have attracted many fans. In an iconic 2013 image, photographer Steve Winter captured him prowling at night with the Hollywood sign gleaming in the background.
The following year, P-22’s bout with mange, caused by rat poison, was also captured on camera, his normally majestic visage scraggly and grumpy-looking.
The mountain lion also once hid out under a Los Feliz house and is suspected to have killed a koala at the city zoo.
Whether the cougar spotted in Silver Lake on Tuesday night is P-22 hasn’t yet been confirmed by authorities.
The Times was not able to reach state wildlife officials, and local authorities said they did not have information on a mountain lion sighting in the area.
But P-22, hemmed in by freeways, is believed to be the only mountain lion in the Griffith Park area, separated by a few miles of dense urban environment from the part of Silver Lake where a cougar was spotted Tuesday.
With no females in his territory, P-22 is out of options for a mate.
“He’s the Brad Pitt of the cougar world. He’s handsome, has aged well, but has struggles with his dating life,” said Beth Pratt, who heads the nonprofit National Wildlife Federation’s #SaveLACougars campaign.
Despite P-22’s GPS collar and proximity to densely populated neighborhoods, researchers have a hard time keeping track of his movements.
The mountain lion seen Tuesday, notably, appears to be wearing a GPS collar in images shared by Silver Lake residents.
