If You Haven't Done Anything Wrong
You Have Nothing To Worry About,
Tea Party Tax Cheaters

If all the worthless assholes, Democratic* & Republican, would shut their fucking cake-holes about what an outrage & horror this IRS-looks-at-the-Tea-Party bullshit is for just a moment & pull their heads from their asses, a few of them might realize it's perfectly sensible to investigate people & organizations whose sole excuse for being was alleged to be displeasure at paying taxes, indeed a revulsion at the very concept of taxes (except poll taxes of course).
It it really such a stretch of the imagination that outfits pretending that the Tea in Tea Party stood for "Taxed Enough Already" might not be interested in following the finer points of the tax code & could very well be cheating on their taxes? (By the way, what happened to amorphous Republican plans to "close tax loopholes?" Can't close 'em if you don't know what they are.) And why should the government subsidize admittedly anti-democratic & hate-filled organizations that want to overthrow the duly-elected gov't."take our country back?"

Then once the elected clowns shut the hell up maybe the lame-ass media could stop paying attention to the whiny would-be victims. Not a single damn loudmouthed right wing jerk has shut up, stopped typing, been removed from the air or denied Internet access by the government or by anyone else. Nor have any of them made any effort to differentiate between paranoid persecution fantasies & the dull reality where no one gives a shit about them or their personal psychiatric & financial problems.

Irony will come when no one will believe them even as they're crammed onto Amtrak trains & sent to "the east""F.E.M.A. camps" for some education, because they'll have been crying "chilling effect" & "black helicopters" for so long no one will believe them. Or care.
*We most specifically mean one Max Baucus of Montana, a deserving recipient of the Hypocrite of a Given Time Period award (A lovely metal trophy, jacketed in copper & launched directly at the recipient.) if this is true. And whenever mentioning the Senator, we like to note that "Baucus corruption" returns about 470,000 results. Will no one rid us of this Senator? (Yes, he's retiring this yr. but former Senator Baucus will surely take the opportunity to replenish the coffers, George Bush style. Expect more & better corruption now that he's free of the Senate.)

Worth Some Words

Hey Trotskyites, it's Victor Navasky! Our favorite today.

Nobody Knows ...

If it isn't one thing, it's another ... & naturally this would happen on a Monday.

All of the (several) reasonable people in Southern California are appalled by the local tee vee stations that offer "news" dragging out the "STORMWATCH" graphics whenever more than half an inch or so of precip. is promised. This a.m., no sooner had we awakened in a puddle of our own perspiration & turned on the telly then we were confronted w/ a new one: "HEATWATCH" (because the mercury may hit triple [Fahrenheit] digits in some areas)!

Enough is enough we decided, we simply can not live any fucking longer in a hot sweaty world populated w/ cretinous drones. So we closed all the windows tightly & went to turn on the gas, BUT NO GAS! (We now sincerely hope that one of these fucks manages to blow up at least the apt. where they're messing w/ the gas, if not the whole damn bldg.) Talk about a last straw, our last nerve has been plucked. Whose fucking non-existence is it, anyway?

Then, adding insult to a pain in the ass, they fucking go around offering to light your pilot as if you're some fucking moron cave-dweller who hasn't mastered flame yet. We are so tired of you fucks. Just because you're an idiot doesn't mean all of us are imbeciles.

Your Children & The National Debt

The national debt is the last thing your mutant spawn will be thinking of as they dogpaddle about hoping they're getting enough nutritious plankton. They'll beg for the quick release of a meteor strike.
Massive movements of people are likely to occur over the rest of the century because global temperatures are likely to rise by up to 5C because carbon dioxide levels have risen unabated for 50 years, said Stern, who is head of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change.

"When temperatures rise to that level, we will have disrupted weather patterns and spreading deserts," he said. "Hundreds of millions of people will be forced to leave their homelands because their crops and animals will have died. The trouble will come when they try to migrate into new lands, however. That will bring them into armed conflict with people already living there. Nor will it be an occasional occurrence. It could become a permanent feature of life on Earth."
"We have always been at war w/ every other tribe."
The news that atmospheric carbon dioxide levels have reached 400ppm has been seized on by experts because that level brings the world close to the point where it becomes inevitable that it will experience a catastrophic rise in temperatures. Scientists have warned for decades of the danger of allowing industrial outputs of carbon dioxide to rise unchecked.

The prospect of Earth returning to these climatic conditions is causing major alarm. As temperatures rise, deserts will spread and life-sustaining weather patterns such as the North Indian monsoon could be disrupted. Agriculture could fail on a continent-wide basis and hundreds of millions of people would be rendered homeless, triggering widespread conflict.

There are likely to be severe physical consequences for the planet. Rising temperatures will shrink polar ice caps – the Arctic's is now at its lowest since records began – and so reduce the amount of solar heat they reflect back into space. Similarly, thawing of the permafrost lands of Alaska, Canada and Russia could release even more greenhouse gases, including methane, and further intensify global warming.
If not meteors or comets, atomic oblivion will do. It's inevitable, really.
"You ain't bringin' no cows & donkeys in here. Now git or else!"
What better way to tell a few million starving neighbors to get off what's left of one's lawn than a nuke or two?

Much as we hate to say our cynicism was completely justified it was completely justified, wasn't it?

Thumbs Up

We think this is something to eat.
So why'd someone come out & shout "No photos?" Makes us suspicious. Not that we were planning to eat any of whatever the hell it is.

Police Terror Of The Future

The sky, very similar to the background.
Via L.A. Observed:
KCRW producer Matt Holzman embedded with cops in the LAPD Air Support unit to see what it's like in the helicopters that patrol Los Angeles skies.
If he could drive home, whether to NPR guy hep urban pad or suburbia, it is not "embedding." A day or two hanging at the helipad & a couple of fly-alongs while the ossifers mostly ignore you &/or try to be on their best behavior is not like racing to Baghdad in a truck full of hopped-up jarheadsgyrenes, you hyperbolic drone.

Now then. Are we as blind/stupid as ever, or have the SoundCloud clowns given us a player w/o a volume control? (It's the accumulation of these little things that drives some to anti-social acts, you know.)ADDED AGGRAVATION: If the fucking thing isn't playing here (IT DIDN"T FOR US, & THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT WE MEAN BY "ACCUMULATION OF LITTLE THINGS," BY THE FUCKING WAY.) click through to listen, & leave a nasty note for SoundCloud about cross-platform something usability blah.

And mere secs. later: We must admit they (whoever they may be) are geniuses, because now the damn thing plays, & we, having added a now-useless paragraph (& this one) are about to boil over w/ rage.

Take Two

We were reading a thing about re-recordings of "the classics" & were reminded of a prime example of the phenomenon, an example we once owned. Sadly, the guy typing the item remembered as well & typed it up,
When Sinatra left Capitol Records in 1960 to found his own label, Reprise Records—with the explicit goal of giving artists more control over their recordings—he made a series of albums that included re-recorded versions of his Capitol hits. The financial incentive was huge: Sinatra was still riding high, and since he owned Reprise he stood to make far more money from sales of the re-recorded records than the originals. (Even so, he had to sell the company to Warner Bros. a few years later.) [Ha ha! — Editor Bouffant] Similarly, Ponak pointed out, when Chuck Berry left Chess Records for Mercury, the first thing he did was record a greatest-hits collection, presumably at a much more favorable royalty rate, without making it clear that the hits had been re-recorded.
so we've no particular reason to quote or link to it. It's not as if any human activity's been authentic for some time anyway.

Should probably be clear it was the Chuck Berry Mercury diskL.P. we once had, not Sinatra remakes.

Will Not Go Away

One would imagine that 80 yrs. after the Thousand Year Reich was established (& 68 yrs. after it was officially over) the whole Nazi thing would have been forgotten or be so damn boring one would hear little about it, but Nazis are still quite popular, & written about all the time. (Eleventy-Dimensional Chess Dep't.: It's as if the Nazis, by changing names ["Randian Objectivists"] & wearing fewer uniforms, infiltrated the faction of the "victorious" side they knew was more sympathetic, shall we say, to their anti-communist & pro-corporate desires, & actually won that war for world domination we had about 75 yrs. ago. Nah, couldn't be. The now-industrialized West would have to be pretty damn dense to ... )
A controversial Nazi-themed production of Richard Wagner's Tannhäuser has been cancelled after it caused some audience members to seek medical help and prompted others to walk out in anger.

The Rheinoper in Düsseldorf said it was in a state of shock after being deluged with complaints by members of the public who called the opera tasteless and unnecessarily provocative.

The production, which opened last Saturday and was expected to be one of the highlights of the celebrations for the bicentenary of Wagner's birth later this month, has a Nazi storyline, and includes scenes of people dying in gas chambers, being shot and raped, and of members of a family having their heads shaved before their execution.
Some of history is agonizing, & so what? It fucking happened & because it did, reminders are never unnecessary or provocative. Krauts really shouldn't attempt to shove it all down the memory hole. (We've another hole we'd could suggest where they can shove a few things ...)

And what a bunch of sissified weaklings. Where is the Germany of yesterday that could start a war & mean it? Look at this crap:
Some opera goers were said to be so traumatised they had to receive medical assistance. The director of the opera house, Christoph Meyer, said his company had not meant to offend, and its purpose had been to "mourn, not mock" victims of the Holocaust. The production, by director Burkhard C Kosminski, is said to have bombarded the audience with shocking Holocaust imagery from the start.

The opening scene depicts singers inside glass containers dropping to the floor as they are enveloped in a white fog – a clear allusion to the gas chambers that killed millions in Nazi death camps.
Where were the sensitive/vomiting Wagner-lovers when the real Holocaust was happening? Compare your suffering while watching a damn opera to the agony, torture, slavery & death your parents & grandparents inflicted on their fellow citizens just a few yrs. ago.

Even ignoring Nazis who came to these United Snakes to establish the anti-communist national security state, the Nazis' ideological descendants are actually in charge of everything (all in the name of free markets & anti-communism) on both sides of the Atlantic.
He had also found vindication for his controversial subject of inquiry. Back in 2007, when Herwig began publishing articles in Der Spiegel about the public figures he unearthed in the Karteikarten, he provoked an angry backlash, which continued over time as he revealed the Nazi Party membership of more than a dozen prominent German politicians, intellectuals, and artists. “Whenever I wrote that I’d discovered a pillar of society who had a stain, people would say, ‘Oh god, he’s muckraking, he’s throwing dirt at these people, it cannot be true.’” He paused. “But sorry, it is: here’s the file.”
Sheer sloth-like inertia had us ignoring our Nazis, but our Puritan sense of duty forced us to perform a cursory search, which for once was worth the effort. First item returned is a perfect illustation.
Perhaps the report’s most damning disclosures come in assessing the Central Intelligence Agency’s involvement with Nazi émigrés. Scholars and previous government reports had acknowledged the C.I.A.’s use of Nazis for postwar intelligence purposes. But this report goes further in documenting the level of American complicity and deception in such operations.

The Justice Department report, describing what it calls “the government’s collaboration with persecutors,” says that O.S.I investigators learned that some of the Nazis “were indeed knowingly granted entry” to the United States, even though government officials were aware of their pasts. “America, which prided itself on being a safe haven for the persecuted, became — in some small measure — a safe haven for persecutors as well,” it said.
If you aren't hatin' on America, you aren't paying attention.

A Plea For Understanding

From a law-abiding citizen.Ricochet:

Onward Little Xian Soldiers

We pause in the photo-bloggering to remind all & sundry that the editor-publisher of this electro-rag was home-schooled for several yrs. & it Didn;[t hurt us mnone  !!

No surprises for anyone who'll admit that child-bearing & rearing are fascism in its purest & vilest form, & that home schooling is the vilest form of raising the little bastards, but as long as Western society allows young people to be held hostage to their parents' ideologies the message of freedom for all (not just powerful white grown-ups) must be repeated.

Christian Reconstructionists

Smith is referring to the Calvinist movement, founded by Rousas John Rushdoony, that advocates a Christian takeover of the political system in order to "purify" the nation and cleanse it of the sin of secularism. Rushdoony taught that public schools – "statist education," in his words – promote chaos, primitivism, and "a vast disintegration into the void". He advocated home schooling as a way to rear a generation that could carry out the mission of retaking the nation for Christ.

Much of fundamentalist home schooling is driven by deeply sexist and patriarchal ideology. The Quiverfull movement teaches that women need to submit to their husbands and have as many babies as they possibly can. The effects of these ideas on children are devastating, as a glance at HA's blogs show.

"The story of being home schooled was a story of being told to sit down and shut up. 'An ideal woman is quiet and submissive,' I was told time and time again," writes Phoebe. "The silence and submission I was pushed into was ultimately a place of loneliness, bitterness and almost crippling insecurity."

The fundamentalist home schooling world also advocates an extraordinarily authoritarian view of the parental role. Corporal punishment is frequently encouraged. The effects are, again, often quite devastating. "People who experienced authoritarian parents tend to turn into adults with poor boundaries," writes one pseudonymous HA blogger. "It's an extremely unsatisfying and unsustainable way to live."
Now we'll have to wait until one of these little ideologues blows up something for Jesus before any of these unfortunate children are freed from the fascist prisons of their houses.

Small World Dep't.

Our Puritan sense of duty obligates us to continue following & reporting onsharing stories we've previously coveredlinked.

So extra fun for us when this Tom Friedman twice-a-day-broken-clock style item on the coming competition for H2O was datelined Yemen where, per Tom &/or a taxi driver, the war is on:
[P]eople get to run their taps for only 36 hours every 30 days or so. They have to fill up as much as they can and then rely on water trucks that come through neighborhoods and sell water like a precious commodity. I am visiting Mohamed Qaid, a 25-year-old laborer from the nearby village of Qaradh who was struck the night before in the hand and chest by three bullets fired by a sniper from Marzouh, the village next door. The two villages have been fighting over the rapidly dwindling water supply from their shared mountain springs. Six people have been killed and many more wounded in clashes since 2000 that have heated up of late. One was killed a night ago. Qaid is in pain, but he wanted to tell people about what is happening here. I have one question: “Were you really shot in a fight over water?” He winces out his answer: “It wasn’t about politics. It wasn’t about the Muslim Brotherhood. It was about water.”
Extra fun because in 1962 our father's employer, a civil engineering firm, sent him to Yemen w/ USAID to advise the locals which direction water flows in or something. He arrived just in time to be kept under house arrest for a wk. or so & then to be thrown out of the country by the anti-royalist army officers who had "attempted to seize power." 51 yrs. later the Yemeni water situation is even worse. No hope, is there? Not much water, either, & what there is isn't cheap.

Cleveland's Keystone Kops. Kee-rist!

The police are not your friend. Previously in Cleveland:
Surveillance video shows a naked Sowell standing over the semiconscious woman. She would not remember the witnesses who came over to take cellphone pictures of her. She would not know until she awoke several days later that the paramedics who responded to the scene let Sowell ride in the ambulance with her to the hospital.

“They thought he was my husband. Ain’t that some shit?” the woman later testified.

The woman decided not to inform the police, fearing they would fail to protect her should Sowell come to kill her.

On October 29, 2009, police finally arrived at Sowell’s house with a warrant based on the complaint from more than a month before. He was not at home, but there were the bodies of two partly clothed women in a third-floor room. [WARNING: Icky.] A search produced the remains of nine other women, including a human head in a bucket.
And no relation of which we are aware.
Sowell’s home was on Cleveland’s East Side, across the Cuyahoga River from the Near West Side house where Amanda Berry and two other women apparently were held after being kidnapped. But both homes were in the vast neighborhoods housing Cleveland’s working poor and downright destitute.
Oh, poor people. See also: Milwaukee, where the heat missed Jeffrey Dahmer eating his way through the poorer parts of town.

We Spit On Your Wormy Grave, Man!

Stick w/ the classics, avoid faddism: Words w/ long histories. (Could've worked "mother" into the headline as well.)
Most of the words are frequently used ones, such as the pronouns for "I" and "we", and the nouns, "man" and "mother". But the survival of other terms was more baffling. The verb "to spit", and the nouns "bark" and "worm" all had lengthy histories.

"Bark was really important to early people," said Pagel. "They used it as insulation, to start fires, and they made fibres from it. But I couldn't say I expected "to spit" to be there. I have no idea why. I have to throw my hands up."
From the abstract:
Our results suggest a remarkable fidelity in the transmission of some words and give theoretical justification to the search for features of language that might be preserved across wide spans of time and geography.
The WaPo weighs in.

It's all been done. A minimum of twice.

It's All About U.S.

Outreach National Republican Congressional Committee-style is not actually "interesting" until the American Civil War is involved. At least they decided against War of Northern Aggression.
While many look at Cinco de Mayo as a chance to party it up, there’s actually some interesting history behind it that involves the American Civil War. It’s a lso [sic] a story that parallels America’s own struggles for freedom from European monarchical rule.
Even those ordinarily stereotypical & clichéd Canadians get ticked when the U.S. appropriates "America." It's a whole damn continent, not one nation.
As we celebrate Cinco de Mayo with our friends and family, we remember the inspirational story of the Battle of Puebla. Mexico and the United States share roles in their respective fights for freedom from oppressive occupiers. It’s in that shared spirit that Mexico and the United States celebrate Cinco de Mayo today.
Just to be fair & balanced it's more than likely this was typed by an intern (Only the best for outreach!) making it hard to determine intentionality. Great picture Googling though, & scrupulously credited. Our favorite:

Should obviously be run in its 60th anniv. yr., but we didn't see it until long after Passover Easter. However, reactionary stick-in-the-mud OrthodoXians don't get around to their spring celebration until today, so we've an excuse. And an excuse for this,

Twitchy Reports On "The Left"!

More Malkinization, reported breathlessly at Big Hollywood by John Nolte. Any item that opens w/ a sentence including "Twitchy" & "the left" is going to be painful, & while it hurts us to read it now, imagine a future day when Big Ho John remembers typing it. Not just painful, downright embarrassing.

NETFLIX JOINS LEFT'S SARAH PALIN HASHTAG TWITTER GAME WITH 'MOON NAZIS'

Twitchy reports that on Tuesday night, the left launched a Twitter game with the hashtag #SarahPalinFilms. Via a verified account, this was Netflix's voluntary contribution:

--
One review of "Iron Sky" describes the film this way:
The film tries to make the connection between the Nazis and the current state of American politics via a US President character that embodies the Sarah Palin brand of politics, but it’s done in bad taste and this is where the satire fails
To say this was a public relations error by Netflix is an understatement. The Internet will not only ensure that Netflix's shockingly tone-deaf tweet spreads like wildfire, but this is the kind of divisive behavior that can blemish a company forever.

Had Netflix contributed to an #ObamaFilm hashtag game with the exact same title… Well, we all know Netflix would never do that. The mainstream media would pummel them into dust.

Thanks to recent successes, Netflix might be feeling flush with power. But classless behavior not only encourages customers to look elsewhere, it tells competitors that there is now an opening.

Eventually, Netflix will find itself faced with real competition, and when it does, goodwill will be the kind of thing that makes all the difference.
It flew right over Nolte's thick skull that Iron Sky is a Sarah Palin film. Says so right up there in the review he quoted.

Not much of a game if "the left" (The future of the Republican Party: Policing "Twitter games.") types The Undefeated* & buggers off is it? And what's wrong w/ a little marketing? Why does John Nolte hate businesses using social media for free-market marketing?
*Ooops.

Grievances

It happened 20 to 30 yrs. ago in Internet time (Excuse the fuck out of us for having a lifethings we must do which do not involve the Internet.) but if the Daily Beast can let Ho-ward Kurtz go for probably not reading Jason Collins' SI article, WHY IN HELL IS MEGAN McARDLE STILL TYPING & COLLECTING MONEY THERE?

Viz., we saw this Tues./Weds. but for crying out loud, no way. Then, seconds ago (Or, in Internet time, hrs. ago) immediately before seeing that Kurtz was a ghost at the Beast we saw this wherein two of Sullivan's readers let him know what a dope he is (Although he may have had the cunning to leave the Beast ahead of a pink slip.) for agreeing w/ McArdle. (Horrors, we've exceeded whatever limit the Dump DopeDish places on free reading; this means we can not-bring Sully into whatever new feed thingie we establish once Reader disappears.)

We'll just use the incognito thingie to grab the best part so the rubes needn't lose their privileges or actually click there. Our emphasis.
I’m sorry, but the plain fact is that the Republicans stole the 2000 election, and did so with the active complicity of the US Supreme Court. I know that’s serious language, which we should not use carelessly or casually, but I say it with due consideration, and I think that judgment is clearly supported by the facts.

Some may disagree. But at the very least, we should not rewrite history along the lines of Republican propaganda (currently being spouted, perhaps sincerely, by Megan McArdle.)
We assume she is sincere in her desire for the money, & she's certainly dense enough to swallow propaganda whole.

And why hasn't this broken a camel's back somewhere? Tina Brown, the ball is in your court.

Douchebag Tag Team

By John Cole May 2nd, 2013
You’ll never guess what couple is one of the first out of the gate distorting the Oregon Medicaid study:
I’m sure you are all shocked they are doing what they are paid to do.
Speaking of Tina Brown, we knew she'd married a philandering jerk old enough to be her father (25+ yrs. on her) but didn't know the full story/story as Wikipedia tells it.
In 1973, the literary agent Pat Kavanagh introduced Brown's writings to Harold Evans, editor of The Sunday Times, and in 1974 she was given freelance assignments in the UK by Ian Jack, the paper's features editor, and in the US by its color magazine edited by Godfrey Smith. When a relationship developed between Brown and Evans, she resigned to write for the rival The Sunday Telegraph. Evans divorced his wife in 1978 and on August 20, 1981 Evans and Brown were married at Grey Gardens, the East Hampton, New York, home of then The Washington Post executive editor Ben Bradlee and Sally Quinn. Brown lives in New York City with Sir Harold Evans and their two children, a son, George born in 1986 and a daughter, Isabel, born in 1990.
Sweet Blood of Jesus, how fitting that she'd be married at Ben & Sally's palatial mansion, as the Bradlee/Quinn story is very similar to the Brown/Evans affair. Except the age difference is only 20 yrs. Pikers!!

Christ, what a goatse-sized asshole every person in this item (other than Randy Andy's reader & John Cole) is. No jury could possibly convict us. They'd vote us a medal.

We Knew It

As sure as the sun sets each evening, someone, somewhere, was going to pole a raft down a certain river in Egypt screeching loudly when he or she was confronted w/ anything denying the essential & absolute purity of the sad-assed collection of losers & chumps who, 400+ yrs. ago, started the honkie invasion of the western continents.

This time it was the lowest of the low, a literal rent-seeking parasite who decided that finding proof of long-rumored cannibalism at Jamestown is libel against our colonial fathers & mothers.

And where else but The Daily Caller to express this butt-hurt?
However, this morning I was disappointed to see sensationalism darken the courageous and honorable reputation of our Virginia colonists at Jamestown.
History might disagree w/ that characterization, but it is only to be expected that a Huckabee-supporting shitheel who is (probably self-) described as a "Manhattan Real Estate Owner/Investor" would think "gentlemen" refusing to work & expecting others to provide sustenance for them were courageous & honorable.
Moreover, given the lack of overwhelming proof that Jane was eaten by other colonists, why were other alternatives not mentioned by the Jamestown anthropologists? That’s not good scholarship.
Out on a limb here, but it certainly wouldn't surprise us to hear something along the lines of: "Evolution is a crock because the fossil evidence/record is not an unbroken chain of evidence, including transitional forms" from Mr. Mark Myers Mermel's pie-hole.
While the anthropologists’ sensationalism may sell tickets to the Jamestown exhibits this summer, the only thing that was undeniably cannibalized at this point was the reputation of 6,000 of our colonial fathers and mothers.
3M's reputation? Married in 2005, Mr. Marmel nonetheless claims to have already had children (plural) in the '90s:
Mermel doesn’t see religion as an obstacle for Huckabee’s campaign here. in fact, he says, knowing Huckabee’s "dogma" means we already know what Huckabee will do. "The other people, you don’t know what you’re getting," he told me.. "Why wouldn’t you want somebody who has good values," he said. "He has good family values. And that’s a negative? How crazy is that?"

He went on.. "I remember the Clinton years," Mermel said. "I couldn’t point my children at the T.V."
As of this, however, "Mr. Mermel is married and has two children, one teenager and one toddler." So he dumped the wife who spawned his now-teenager; we can assume the toddler comes from the 2005 model wife. How, then did he have not one child but children during the horror that was the Clinton yrs.? Maybe our noticing all this is bad scholarship as well. Or perhaps he's a fucking liar, by omission if not commission, & should shut his fucking trap before we shut it for him. (Maybe he ate his first wife [& not in a good way] & this is all projection of denial, if that's even a thing.)

Christ, what an asshole.

Fuck, are we sick & tired of these assholes.

Per Internet current outdoor temp 96℉, & we have to go out there. If no more items appear here today, will someone call the heat & get them to look for us? Thanks.

Filth For Friday

Not the Mentors version. This is the Mentors not-version. Not safe for work or decent human beings, mostly because it's so damn stupid, but there's plenty of vulgarity.

And Leave Show Bidnis?

Fashion Followers Follow-Up

So far beyond caring we almost care again, but we do feel obligated to follow the crap we go w/ if more of it crosses our desktop, as this did, & to close an open tab we may as well connect the two.We don't think Lauren Ashburn, Mistah Kurtz's pard there, quite got it, but that's no surprise. And we remind all that our big complaint was the telebision double standard or something.

Bonus Fashion Bull!

WTF? Beyonce and Anna Wintour
Chair Punk Couture Exhibit

Whatever, old news, nothing is safe.

Ad Blitz(Krieg)

How they raise funds adds to knowledge, if not understanding, of the conservative id (It certainly isn't a mind, ha ha ha.) although why the collective we would want to increase our knowledge of it is debatable.
We were trying to be clever above. This adds nothing to our knowledge or understanding, but it is so pathetically lame we are forced to laugh, & laughter is the best medicine, aspirin excepted.

Wheeee! Coloring is fun! No wonder they do it every time.

Stupid Phrases, Stupid Thoughts

Could we all agree to "disagree w/" rather than "push back against" something? And to "retract" rather than "walk something back?" (Although in most cases where something has been "walked back" an actual apology seems more required than mere retraction.) Do you fucks think you're being clever?

Burnin' For You

Motherfucker-wise, it is as hot as one (92℉ outside in our sector, though a pleasant 74℉ in the Just Another Blog [From L.A.]™ bunker) & flames are licking Camarillo, where the temperature was a record (we assume for the date, not all-time) 95℉ at noon. 6,500 acres (2,630 hectares) burned, 0% (0%) contained.

Were we fans of The Bold & The Beautiful we'd be irked at KCBS, which has preëmpted said soap for the same feed that also-CBS-owned KCAL was showing as part of their regular noon newscast. (Now The Talk is preëmpted, as well as The People's Court, as both stations continue w/ the same feed.) Defeats the point of owning two of seven VHF stations in the same major metropolitan area*. (Are we an idiot dwelling in the past? Yes: The VHF/UHF distinction in the U.S. was over in 2009. But you know what we mean.)

Camarillo not so funny now that the state loony bin is closed, but this web log is not trying to be funny. (Not succeeding, anyway.)The former hospital's site is now occupied by CSU Channel Islands, which has been evacuated.
*The other local tee vee duopoly, FOX's KTTV & KCOP, is only wallowing in the schadenfreudal coverage on KTTV.

Wishful Thinking

Not quite as crazy as some, nonetheless entirely delusional Canadian Republican & former Bush speechwriter David Frum types:
Fortunately, the Republican 2016 field thus far remains mercifully free of the charlatans and crackpots who came to the fore in 2012. The early field is intelligent and hard-working. Paul Ryan has immense policy knowledge, Ted Cruz is a brilliant litigator and debater, Marco Rubio has made himself central to the most important legislative initiative of the year. Even Rand Paul has carefully repositioned himself as a sober-minded U.S. Senator, distancing himself from paranoia and bigotry.
Clap louder & harder, Dave, that always helps.

(We've no idea why, but it seems to be web log tradition to note that an item has been "cross-published" elsewhere.)

America: Eating Its Young Since 1609

No surprise, but now proved; they must've loved the taste (That's what your parents really meant if they told you they loved you.) because they & their descendants have been cannibalizing their children for over 400 fucking yrs.
Relief came in the form of Lord De La Warr*, who sailed into the settlement with food and new colonists. After six months of siege and starvation, only 60 of the original 300 settlers had survived.

"It's somebody doing what they had to do," said Dr Owsley of the cannibalism.
Cannibalism, capitalism. Coincidence?
*Yup. We'd thought Delaware (as in the state & river) had come from the indigenous people of the area. Not quite. History is horrid.

Street Art & Music

Nice piece, but now we must rearrange the walls to hang it.
Return of The Son of The Mummy
Because we found it down on the street, the Ig.Bonus version w/ Mike Watt working the thud staff.Egypto-filler:

Most Cretinous Idea Of The Day

Today's most moronic thought isn't the one held by 44% of self-described Republicans polled who believe that armed revolution will soon be necessary in order to something something America liberties something.

That is idiotic enough, but this scheme to blow $650 million clams on museum building & demolishing is more likely to happen in the reality-based world. (Perhaps not much more likely, but it'll happen before armed revolution in these United Snakes.)
Zumthor's building would leave untouched the Broad Contemporary Art Museum, the Resnick Pavilion, Bruce Goff's 1988 Pavilion for Japanese Art and the former May Co. building. But it does call for the razing of the three original 1965 buildings by William L. Pereira—the Ahmanson, Hammer and Bing wings—and a 1986 addition by Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates of New York.
Because it will save five million bones/yr. in operating costs. Pays for itself in 130 yrs.!

LA BREA

Better these exercises in dullnesscomposition than our reading more shit on the Internet & ex-fucking-ploding.

400 Dead, 149 Missing

From Texas to Bangladesh, industrial murder marches on:
Many factories have been closed since the disaster, with regular street protests.

On Tuesday night, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged people to return to work.

She said in parliament: "I would like to tell the workers to keep their head cool, keep mills and factories operative, otherwise you will end up losing your jobs."
Gawd fucking damn, the corporatist witch values slave-labor over the lives of her fellow citizens? We're kidding; her fellow citizens are the owner of the collapsed factory, "Rana Plaza owner Mohammed Sohel Rana, a local leader of the youth wing of the ruling Awami League party" & his ilk. Speaking of hanging corporatists on meat-hooks, as we already have this a.m., why hasn't she been hooked up yet?

Also too the Pope opens his pie-hole.
Speaking at his regular morning Mass at the Vatican, Pope Francis called the working conditions of those who died in Bangladesh "slave labour".

"Not paying a fair wage, not giving a job because you are only looking at balance sheets, only looking to make a profit, that goes against God," he said.
Big talk from Frankie One Lung, but when will Il DucePapa tell his flock to concentrate on stopping the murders of hundreds of living slaves/economic exploitation in general, rather than stopping accepted medical procedures & contraception?

A further factoid:
Cracks had appeared in Rana Plaza, in the Savar district, the day before the collapse but the staff were reportedly told to continue work.
Fuck Matt Yglesias, who should be crushed by chunks of concrete, loaded on a truck & buried in a mass grave. Example:
Bangladeshi volunteers and workers load dead bodies onto a truck
at the site of a building collapse in Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka,
on April 24, 2013.

This photo was run at the top of Yglesias's "Fuck you Bangladesh" article. What sort of prick sees something like that & thinks "these people got what they deserve." We sincerely hope the little Randian shit gets exactly what he deserves before the rest of his hair falls out. (Which we hope is tomorrow.)

Desperation Time

Are Gates' flying Microsoft monkeys spying on our devil-box to determine which browser we use & then to try to push their shoddy product on us? Could be.
How would Billy feel if we went to his house & started peering in his fucking windows? Would he call the police? You bet. Yet there are no police we can call when his weasels Internet-peep on us.

It is this powerlessness that leads to bodies hung from meat-hooks Mussolini-style, Mr. Gates. So keep on peepin'. Justice will eventually be rendered.

Meta Funny Pages

Another reaction.

Never Mind

Hooray hooray, the First of May —
Ahhh, who gives a fuck?

"Oh Shit"*

Wow/Damn! Never flying again. (Not the only reason, but the flight-nervous may not want to watch the plane imitating a lead balloon.)
*Allegedly the phrase most often heard before the voice recorder stops.

Plastic People, Oh Baby Now ...

Just a few of a zillion things that have been put inside you w/o your knowledge, let alone consent:
Most recently, Bisphenol A (BPA), the synthetic chemical used in a variety of plastic consumer products, including some baby bottles, epoxy cements, the lining of tuna fish cans, and even credit card receipts, has been singled out as another everyday toxin increasingly found inside all of us.

Recent studies indicate that its effects are as varied as they are distressing. As Sarah Vogel of the Environmental Defense Fund has written, “New research on very-low-dose exposure to BPA suggests an association with adverse health effects, including breast and prostate cancer, obesity, neurobehavioral problems, and reproductive abnormalities.”

Teflon, or perfluorooctanoic acid, the heat-resistant, non-stick coating that has been sold to us as indispensable for pots and pans, is yet another in the list of substances that may be poisoning us, almost unnoticed. In addition to allowing fried eggs to slide right onto our plates, Teflon is in all of us, according to the Science Advisory Board of the Environmental Protection Agency, and “likely to be carcinogenic in humans.”
A nation of dead men walking. If they were born w/ legs.
