Random Thoughts/Boring Observations

Thoughts that barely deserve to be twits, but it's such an imposition (& no little work) to open Tweeter, so here they are:

1) Not smoking radically decreases the necessity of leaving the relative safety of the editorial bunker & venturing into the post-apocalyptic wasteland; can't remember the last time we left the property. May save so much money we'll be able to have food & groceries delivered. If we can get over the habit of daily advert retrieval from the mail box we may be able to spend looooong periods of time w/o even opening the door.

Embarrassment of Riches

As we type we are flipping between four athletic competitions featuring the Los Angeles Dodgers*, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Los Angeles Clippers & Los Angeles Lakers. And whenever they said it they were right: Not one of the four is on "free" over-the-air telebision. Exception to the rule: The also-on as we type Anaheim Ducks game is available over the air.
*Ha ha ha: Vin Scully on the Dodger game moments ago, after reading copy for tonight's Twitter poll asks what a hashtag is.

It's sad that no one has the stones to ease Vin Scully into retirement. He was never my favorite, even when I lived out there (I thought the Angels' radio guy at the time, Daron Sutton, rocked), but I thought he was a competent professional. Now, whenever the MLB channel shows a Dodger game, he absolutely ruins it for me. He does teevee as though he thinks he's on radio and is worried sick about dead air time.

Blasphemy! Sacrilege! Both, even? Damn.

Vin is easing into retirement. The last several yrs. he hasn't traveled outside Pacific time ('cept AZ; same time as Cali. during DST).

We suspect he'll be behind the mic until he keels over; we make sure never to miss a game now because he could go at any minute, or at least have a stroke or TIA.

And these days he simulcasts the first three innings, which may explain some of the apparent fear of dead air.

I didn't know that about the simulcasting. So, okay, I'll give him a partial pass.

Still isn't an enjoyable way to watch a Dodgers game on teevee, though.

Media Editor:
We will grant that he'll tell the same "interesting anecdote/background story" (from the media guide, no doubt) about an opposing player more than once during a series.

But not every one listens to the entire series. We're just lucky.

(We s'pose next you'll be against Jackie Robinson.)
