Unlike many of the local businesses whose closing we schadenfreudenly note in this space, we had et more than once at Villa Italian; lived in the Half Moon Motel directly across Sepulveda Blvd. for several months in 2008-9. And even post-Culver City residence, prior to events at the bar & music dump next to next door. Same old story, once a family-owned yada yada unpretentious family-friendly establishment, but two owners & many decades later ...
The Health Dep't. really didn't have anything to do w/ Diesel Books (Malibu) surrendering. Books already marked down.
Last but not least, we'll miss Hamburger Hamlet's lobster bisque & the coffee shakes. Not that we'd been in one in this millenium.

Well, minimum wage was maybe $3.00/hr. then.
I remember "gas wars" in the veddy late '50s when it would dip to 29¢/gal.
