The Los Angeles Times leads with a look at how there appears to be a consensus emerging among disparate interest groups on how the nation's healthcare system should be reformed. Although there are still many details to be worked out that could easily derail the process, there's a general agreement that the government needs to get involved in order to make sure that everyone is protected while preserving the employer-based insurance system. Can anyone spot the problem in that last sentence? Anyone? Bueller? The issue here is that the insurer-based health system is what "everyone" is trying to preserve. And that covering everyone while preserving insurance co. profits is not going to work. We are still screwed for the foreseeable future.
