Hey Birdbrains
Any idea what these suckers are? We're far from a birder, but we've never seen this blue/gray species before, & had no luck w/ name that bird websites. First noticed them because they were noisily trying to break open acorns or seeds or whatever the hell on the roof of a garage.
They spent several mins. (long enough for us to grab the camera & shoot) looking for stuff at ground level & beating it on rocks to open it.

I admire them. I would spend virtually unlimited time beating people who are essentially dicks on rocks in hopes of getting the stupid to come out of them.
And eating it...
no, no, stellar's jays have a cap,are found farther east and north, these are western scrub jays (Aphelocoma californica)

And the winner is ... keyote! Possibly juveniles, as the heads weren't as blue as the adult in Mr. 32RC's link.
(Jeeze Thunder, missed it by two species!)
Mikey, meanwhile, has a Sisyphean task ahead of him.
Yep, western scrub jays. They're loud bastards.

Loud from the pounding of potential food on stuff, or screechy? These two weren't vocal.
