This flight path from LAX has been making us a bit nervous since the mid-'80s when we worked downtown & first wondered why that sucker was so low. Events in 2001 haven't lessened our worry any.
I live across the freeway from SFO. In the middle of the night, with the window open, I can hear them throttle up to 100%. But if you've ever flown into San Francisco, you'll notice the landing pattern takes you in over the bay - in fact, back in sixty eight a JAL flight landed short of the runway and in the bay mud. The local governments support a public walkway/park area on the bayshore here in town and on a clear day you can see the airplanes stacked up in the landing pattern about 90 seconds apart - it's kind of dramatic, looking across over the water at the east bay hills...
Air Editor: This puppy's headed east; they take off over the ocean & make a 180° turn. No stacking, but there's a jetliner at low altitude just south of downtown L.A. every two-three mins. or so.
Hollywood Editor: We were underneath the helicopter chase scenes in this drivel (Hollywood Homicide, to save you the click. And note URL: "Nuts.") one Sunday afternoon in 2002, expecting the camera chopper to collide w/ the chase helo at any moment. No such luck.

That's an awfully big mosquito!
I saw the 2nd plane hit live on CNBC. I was at 22nd and B-way at the time.

Can't hear them buzzing 'though.
Some Schwarzeneggar bullshit had a big jet flying low over Vancouver in a unique flight path. Scared the shit out of me.
