Temperatures Too Cold For The 14th Annual Polar Bear Plunge
Annapolis, MD -- How cold was it? Too cold for even the human polar bears. The Maryland Special Olympics had planned its 14th annual Polar Bear Plunge for Saturday.
After the first dip, doctors advised that the second one scheduled, for a couple of hours later, be canceled. Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco was one of about 15,000 people who went in. He says the frigid water took his "breath away."
The air temperature was 23 degrees and the Chesapeake Bay was 36. Police divers formed a line to keep a second wave of people from jumping in the water.
