Damnit, you Google some new information every dayso often if you're not careful. We were most amazed that it's been well over a yr. since we'd wandered through this intersection; last time through a Carl's Jr.® & Faith Plating occupied this space. And we were informed the (no longer-extant) Faith Plating building was designed by some guy named Gehry 50 yrs. ago. More on that & compare & contrast the architectural concepts w/ the built reality at Curbed L.A.No Effin' Idea Dep't.: This doesn't do real justice to the debris w/ spikes thing around the corner windows,
but it's there & it's silly-looking.

Wow, that's ugly. It'd be a perfectly cromulent building, otherwise.

I would make a comment about vagina dentata but that would probably indicate more about me than about the architecture.
Wasn't much of a Gehry.
Building & Safety Editor:
To be fair, Gehry probably wasn't much of a Gehry 50 yrs. ago either.
V.D. is a fair call on whoever decided that would be a good thing.
When it's all over I'm sure I'll have gotten more use from the former Carl's Jr.® than I ever will from "The Dylan."
Gehry's career really didn't do much until his house, which was late 70s. So the concrete box that was torn down was when he was a working stiff, like me.
Otherwise, I like the new building, spikys and all. Tell yourself they are to defend against the mutant swarms after the apocalypse, maybe that will make you feel better.
