Three men dressed in “police-style” uniforms and apparently posing as law enforcement robbed a Koreatown apartment early Saturday morning, according to the LAPD.

The men, joined by a fourth accomplice, took an unspecified amount of cash and jewelry from a residence on the 3100 block of Wilshire Boulevard and committed an assault at around 2:40 a.m., police said.

LAPD Officer Drake Madison said three of the thieves wore black ski masks and “all-black police-style uniforms” and the fourth wore a grey hooded sweatshirt. At least one carried a black semiautomatic handgun, Madison said.

The thieves, who Madison said took a “large sum” of cash and jewelry, fled the scene after the assault and robbery.

When police and paramedics arrived, the assault victim declined an offer to take an ambulance to the hospital, Madison said.

The incident is not the first in which criminals have recently wore [sic] clothing similar to that of law enforcement officials during crimes. In June, police said two men pretended to [sic] U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, including using fake badges, to gain access to homes in Anaheim before robbing Latino residents.

Vivek Ramaswamy, one of the leaders of the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative, blamed a series of 1990s TV sitcoms for what he saw as a decline in U.S. dynamism in science and technology, leading tech companies to hire more qualified foreign-born and first-generation workers over their mentally lazy American counterparts.

“A culture that celebrates the prom queen over the math olympiad champ, or the jock over the valedictorian, will not produce the best engineers,” he wrote in a post on X.

“A culture that venerates Cory from Boy Meets World or Zach & Slater over Screech in Saved by the Bell, or ‘Stefan’ over Steve Urkel in Family Matters will not produce the best engineers,” he noted.

Ramaswamy, who himself is the child of immigrants to the U.S., argued that the nation needs a new “Sputnik moment” to spur domestic advancement in science and technology.

“We’ve awaken from slumber before & we can do it again,” Ramaswamy added. “Trump’s election hopefully marks the beginning of a new golden era in America, but only if our culture fully wakes up.”

What horrible tyranny did that teacher impose on this poor child, that it became necessary to water the tree of liberty w/ blood? Shame on this school for allowing such brutality. Now they reap their empty harvest.

Barbara Wiers, Abundant Life's elementary and school relations director, said during an evening press conference that the school does not have guns on the premises — students aren't even allowed to shoot fake finger guns on the playground, she said. "At school, we have no need for guns."

Earlier that evening, she told reporters that the school did not have metal detectors but "there are a number of security protocols in place" such as cameras. She said every student is "visually scanned" as they enter the building each morning.

"We see ourselves as a family, not just a community," Wiers said. "This wasn't a surprise to God, and He's going to do something mighty with it."

In a post on its public Facebook page, the school requested prayers.

City Church of Madison, which shares a campus with the school, said because of the shooting, there would be no activities or events held Monday evening, but Tuesday night prayers would resume as normal.
