Anthony Dominick Benedetto,
In Memoriam

For once, something good to say of the dead.
Daniel Arkin / NBC News:
Tony Bennett, enraged by racism, championed civil rights alongside MLK  —  In an era when most white entertainers stayed on the sidelines, the singer marched for racial equality and resisted apartheid.  —  In the 1950s, Tony Bennett watched with dismay as Black musicians like Nat King Cole and Duke Ellington were denied admission to concert hall dining rooms and hotels. The injustice he witnessed infuriated the young singer.
 Dave Kindy / Washington Post:
Tony Bennett saw racism and horror in World War II.  It changed him.  —  What were the chances?  Thousands of miles from home, in a foreign land devastated by war, old friends bumped into each other on the street.  —  It was Thanksgiving Day, 1945, when two U.S. Army soldiers met unexpectedly in Mannheim, Germany.

I just want to make this comment regardless of its' importance: I never could get into Mr. Bennett's music. I was going in another direction, Rock & Roll.(1956...) And there I stayed. I got caught up in the 2nd British invasion & was hooked. Except an occasional drift towards Neil Diamond & country (in the 70's....}
HOWEVER, I was VERY much aware of Mr. Bennett's humanitarian efforts towards injustice & racism & fighting the battles !!!
RIP, Mr. Bennett .
