Entirely too damn slothful to look for any of these murder items on the Internet, copy & paste them & then make smart-ass comments about how we're such a loner (Indeed, we think we qualify as a "loner w/ problems.") ourself we haven't had a verbal meat-space discussion that wasn't commerce-based ("Paper or plastic?") in several wks. A month? Six wks.? Who knows or cares. We did covercopy & paste the Moses Lake story.

Far better "paper or plastic?" than "Would you like fries with that?"
Nutrition Editor:
"Would you like the meal/super size that?"
"Just the sandwich, thank you."
(In reality, we usually use the self-check-out.)
The self-checkout (I am a single-hyphen man there) line is one of those little things I am oddly militant about. I have to be in a real hurry, and there has to be incontrovertible evidence that the other lines are filled with some combination of the truly heinous and the truly dumb, before I will go to one of those things.
It's not that I mind the techie aspect. Nor do I mind doing for myself. It's just that I think this is a place where it's really not at all good to encourage our corporate overlords, once again, into further cutting basic jobs. Or into further making the existing ones even more miserable.
Plus, you know, hot teenagers who could conceivably laugh at one of my jokes.
(Assuming I've recently trimmed my eyebrows, of course.)

All depends on our desire to drag items across the scanner, & our willingness to deal w/ humanoids.
Like ATMs; you can't stop the robots.
That's a fair point about ATMs. I wonder why I feel so differently about grocery store clerks and bank tellers. Possibly it has to do with the vastly different hours the two businesses were typically open when ATMs came along.
Inattentive Editor: Sorry your comment was in the queue; now that verification has been reimposed we can probably reset the moderation date.
Also, ATMs not limited to bank branches. (At first, maybe, but not now.) You'd have to be two idiots to drive (or whatever) to a branch if there's a free-standing/in-store ATM near you.
Haha, I haven't been called two idiots before, I don't think. I used to go to the bank because the add-on fee bugged me, on principle.
Not that I'd make a special trip, but I just kept it in mind for when I'd be going past the bank for whatever other reason.
No prob on the mod queue. I hate spam comments as much as anybody.
I do wish I could elect an easier CAPTCHA, though. I'm fairly sure the difficulty of the current offerings keeps several of my readers from commenting as much as they might otherwise.
"Add-on fee" meaning, often, two fees, actually -- the service charge from the machine in the store and the bank's charge for using an out of network ATM.
