Please, No Pussy Jokes
(Species UPDATED)

You might not want to find this fellow when visiting the W.C. in the middle of the night. Don't know if he uses it or just likes it as a perch.Note ordinary Felis silvestris catus. Our command of Russian is limited to determining that the larger one weighs 15 kilos & is 30 centimetres at the shoulder.

More photos. P. S.: Can't these Russkies keep their clothes on?

UPDATE (17 November 2007 @ 0135 PST): Thanks to Antipodean Herr Doktor Bimler, who advises us of Catzilla's exact species in the comments.

Apparently he's a Southeast Asian fishing cat or Prionailurus viverrinus. That may explain why the Russian couple also keep catfish in their bath. On the other hand, they may just do it for fun.

Danke, Mein Herr Doktor.

We couldn't remember which S,N! thread it was on, & then we searched for Asian Fishing Cat, came close w/ the Asian Leopard Cat, but weren't quite sure, &, realizing our responsibility to our vast audience, didn't want to mislead any one.

And if the lady of the house is willing to have her image captured while naked & barely covering herself in the tub, who knows what goes on in there?

The process of Citizen Journalism went something like this:

(1) Follow link through to Russian website. Be gobsmacked at the thought of sharing a tiny Russian apartment with a 15-kg apex predator.

(2) Make out the words 'Fishing Cat'. Say bad things about Cyrillic alphabet. Resort to Google language services to check translation.

(3) Google "Russian Fishing Cat". Encounter an entire zone of the Blogosphere -- comment threads and Wiki pages -- devoted to discussion of this couple and their cat. Occasional hints emerge that cat originally hails from South-East Asia.

(4) Run Google search on "South-East Asian Fishing Cat".

(5) Bingo!

I'm still waiting for the Profit! stage.

Danke again, Dok. W/ your info., we were able to run down their website, www.johndevis.com. His name is John Devis. Or Davis. (Not John Thomas, but maybe that's what they meant.) They're probably not too happy about the Roman alphabet either.

Do not hold your breath in anticipation of profit.
