Design Nazis, or, Nazi Design

Y'all are just like Nazis, 'cept you don't dress as sharp. -- 60s Black Nationalist to 60s Sg't. Joe Friday (paraphrased). The eternal question: Can't we cut them just a little slack? They were such snappy designers. First noticed at Table of Malcontents.

Your quote is pretty darned close. Friday and Gannon were on a Joe Pyne-type talk show. The speaker was Mondo Mabomba, head of the Black Widow Party, who was wearing an op-art dashiki with matching cap, and what he said was, "Y'all are just a bunch of nazis (he pronounced it "nazz-ees") but you don't dress as sharp.... not near as sharp, man!", which brought a cheer from the largely anti-police crowd. Equally as humorous was the latino guy who complained that the height requirement kept him from enlisting in, er, joining the LAPD and the dead-serious reply from Joe that the height requirements had recently been relaxed.

In this context, it is interesting that one of the men present at Harry Lime's "death" in "The Third Man" is a doctor named "Doktor Winkel", who keeps correcting Joseph Cotten's pronunciation of his name. Does this imply that Herr Doktor Winkel was complicit in the deportation and death of Jews from Vienna after the Anschluss? Like all of Harry Lime's associates, has a murky past, to be sure.....
