A North Hollywood landlord convicted of hiring a hitman to kill two opponents, then hiring an arsonist to torch his own apartment building, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Arthur Raffy Aslanian, 55, of La Cañada Flintridge repeatedly resorted to violence to settle business disputes and avoid paying debts, federal prosecutors argued during his five-day trial last July. A jury found him guilty on two counts of conspiracy and three charges related to murder for hire and arson, and on Monday a federal judge handed down the 20-year sentence.

According to prosecutors, Aslanian hired a gang member in April 2022 to kill two people: his former bankruptcy attorney, whom he owed more than $261,000 in legal fees, and a man who had successfully sued Aslanian.

This segment from Dana Bash on the Palestine protest movement is one of the most shameful things I have ever seen on cable news.

OK. There’s so much wrong here that it’s hard to know where to start. For one thing, Bash said things that are simply not true. She said that "pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian groups were attacking each other” on the UCLA campus on Tuesday night. That’s not true! And everyone knew it wasn’t true by the time Bash said those words. From the Los Angeles Times (emphasis mine):

On Tuesday night, Dickson Court exploded into savagery and chaos.A large, mostly male crowd of masked counterdemonstrators tried to break into the encampment, ripping down wood and metal barriers, spraying bear mace, igniting stink bombs and tossing fireworks near the camp perimeter — and in at least one case inside the camp.

The violence came from a mob of pro-Israel supporters. It was not a “clash.” It was a one-sided assault. Bash lied.

When she wasn’t spreading her own falsehoods, Bash was mindlessly regurgitating other peoples’ spin. She happily co-signed the narrative pushed by New York Mayor Eric Adams and the NYPD that protests at Columbia and City College had been masterminded by shadowy forces from outside the schools. “300 people were arrested at Columbia and City College of New York,” she intoned. “But it is unclear how many were actually students. New York City Mayor Eric Adams warned this morning that professional outside agitators are getting involved.”

Adams invoking "outside agitators" is sickening enough, but the addition of "professional" shows us just how full of shit Hizzoner is.

Led by the California Highway Patrol, officers advanced on the encampment around 2:45 a.m. Thursday, initially encountering heavy resistance from protesters and their supporters near the western side of Royce Hall. Officers had greater success on the eastern side, where they moved through a makeshift blockade of trash bins and reached the perimeter of the camp, allowing them to tear away metal barricades and plywood planks that encircled the area.

Once the perimeter was breached, officers slowly began detaining protesters and leading them away. Officers deployed seemingly dozens of flash-bang devices as they worked to penetrate deeper into the encampment, pulling out tents one by one. People inside the encampment wrote on social media that officers fired less-than-lethal projectiles at them.

By about 4 a.m., officers had largely dismantled the eastern front of the encampment. Hundreds of protesters, however, remained steadfast and formed a line with their arms linked, facing off with an equally long line of officers.

It goes on & on. What vicious thuggery didn't the police want seen in the sunlight? Two words: Rodney King.
