I've long taken issue with the expression "can't swing a dead cat", ie "can't swing a dead cat around here without hitting a (lawyer, preacher, cop)." When you stretch 'em out side by side, nose to tail cats are a hell of a lot longer than rats. A lot more room to swing. To tighten things up a bit, the more accurate expression would be "can't swing a dead rat around here without hitting a goddamned lawyer ... "
