But for many convention-goers, being a card-carrying NRA member means more than just protecting their right to own guns. The convention slogan says it all: A Celebration of American Values. Is arming terrorists one of the "American Values" they celebrate?
NRA membership is a cultural signifier, identifying people who hold dear their conservative ideals of individual freedom and patriotism.
If the absolute sanctity of the Second Amendment is more important than keeping weapons from terrorists, it is a suicide pact, even if, as we hear so often from torturers & war-mongers seeking to excuse their torture & aggression, "The Constitution is not a suicide pact." While we're at it, the mythical "law-abiding citizen" so often mentioned is only a citizen who's never been caught or convicted, not a paragon of American moral virtue.
Localcoverage.
Other clown show speakers included usual suspects ex-Ambassador John Bolton, disgraced former Marine Oliver North, & washed-up sorta-was Chuck Norris.
Note this note:If they were real men truly concerned about our Glorious Second Amendment, rather than a gun industry astroturf operation, we'd think they'd shoot their way into the Time Warner Cable Arena, & defend it from any one who dared try to retake it for their three days of meetings & exhibits.
In closing, we'd like to make it abso-fuggin'-lutely clear that we're not opposed to guns, but to ignorant paranoids who think they're informed having guns. Or knives. Or anything sharp.

First of all, the sign in the Convention Center is a normal posting in states with a Concealed Carry Law. This is just like all the other legal notices posted for our benefit in public places. The vast majority of public venues are off-limits to weapons of any kind.
Second, is this statement, which really made me wonder:
In closing, we'd like to make it abso-fuggin'-lutely clear that we're not opposed to guns, but to ignorant paranoids who think they're informed having guns.
Let's pretend that that same subjectivity is applied to another right, such as free speech:
In closing, we'd like to make it abso-fuggin'-lutely clear that we're not opposed to free speech, but to ignorant paranoids who think they're informed having free speech.
Chilling...
That's the difference between being an effete, elitist snob and a Libertarian.
False Equivalence Editor Notes:
effete, elitist snob
Is this a joke?
Please note the difference between speech & weapon possession. "Fire" in crowded theater? No.
Six-yr. olds driving, or having guns? Probably not, right?
Just as blind people aren't granted driving licenses, delusional paranoids who might use a car or a gun as a weapon shouldn't be given those chances.
The vast majority of public venues are off-limits to weapons of any kind.
Kind of puts the lie to the immense popularity of the Second Amendment, doesn't it?
