Since Trump took over, Americans' pride in the U.S. has steadily dropped in an annual Gallup poll.
Proud to be an American? Not so much under Trump, according to a Tuesday Gallup poll.
As Trump is about to hijack July 4 celebrations to celebrate himself, the new poll shows Americans' pride in the country drop to the lowest level in the 19-year history of the question. In 2016, 81% of Americans were "extremely" or "very" proud to be an American. In 2019, that number dropped to just 70%.
Since Gallup introduced the question in 2001, Americans' pride in the U.S. had never dropped below 80% — that is, until Trump took over.
In 2017, only 75% of Americans were proud of the country, and that dropped to 72% in 2018 and now 70% in 2019.
Further, the percent of Americans "extremely" proud of the country had remained above 50% in every year since 2001... until last year.
In 2018, it fell to 47%. In 2019, it fell once again, to 45%.
