I know that Scientist cover, but it never fails to remind me of 10th grade lunchtime when we'd snag the library's record player and play what they had. The best of what they had was a Hallowe'en sound effects record, one side of short sounds like necks being broken and heads getting chopped off, and another side consisting of one long frightfest with deep and disturbing howls.

Play that last one at 78 and it was just a bunch of guys pretending to be monkeys.

Have one of those on a cassette, we think.

Also a Karen Carpenter 45 of "Good Bye to Love." Played at 33, she sounds like Andy Williams or Perry Como. That's frightening.

Elliot died in a London flat, No. 12 at 9 Curzon Place, Shepherd Market, Mayfair, which was on loan from singer/songwriter Harry Nilsson. Four years later, The Who's drummer Keith Moon died in the same flat at the same age.
