Oh, fer fucks sake. If we build it without an 'off' switch, I'm pretty sure we deserve what we get...
Binary processors (what is typically called a computer) will never, in my opinion, become 'intelligent' (become self aware, for lack of a better definition).
There is a faint possibility that the IBM chip that mimics the human brain might become self aware but I don't think we need to worry about AI (Al?) until we start growing computers.
I'm planning to be dead before then.
