END OF LEISURE SHOPPING: The days of leisure shopping are over for many Americans as they grow more precise in how and when they shop. They’re visiting fewer stores, checking off their lists and walking away. Online, they’re spending less time browsing.
WHAT’S BEHIND IT: Americans are focusing on what they need and can afford and don’t want to be tempted to buy the extras.
WHAT IT MEANS: Stores are under more pressure to attract customers. Fewer visits could mean the death of merchants who are struggling.
