But it does raise the question: why is Trump so determined to love Russia? For Russia is a DECLINING power. It has a declining population. Current male life expectancy in Russia is around 68 years. Its assets include nuclear weapons, natural gas, and petroleum. That’s it. It’s a second rate ground power that can’t get further than about 100 miles into Ukraine, with which it shares a long, porous border.

Maybe it’s the strongman thing. Maybe it’s the dream of Trump enterprise expansion into Russia (and all its oligarchical black market money). Maybe he’s a paid operative. maybe it’s all of the above.

But Russia is on its way down. We appear to think that’s the right team to be on.
