After 100 years of the cars-first transportation system that has been imposed on Americans, anyone who is a pedestrian, bicycle rider or a user of mass transit, is now a second class citizen. The automobile industry, fossil fuel industry, real estate industry and the banks have enslaved Americans to an expensive, mostly single occupant, lethal, high speed, 4 wheeled, steel box to use for day to day locomotion. Most Americans spend the paychecks from their first three months every year to pay for owning a car. In other words they drive to work in order to work to drive. This is all by design because corporate capitalism's most important product is the privately owned automobile and it is the great taboo to speak truth about our addictive, diseased preoccupation with a car.
