Man, that artist is a n00b, spaghetti and meatballs is an Italian-American dish. In Italy, the spaghetti would be eaten as a primo, the meatballs as a secondo.
Those "golden age" comics didn't really care much for versimilitude. For example, the Germans in them only knew one word, "Achtung!", which was translated as "Intruders are over there!" or "I need to use the restroom!" or "Kill the Americans!" depending upon the needs of the story, heh. And "Achtung! Achtung!" when translated to English in the italics below it was "To be, or not to be. That is the question. To suffer the slings of..."
