Early A.M. Nostalgia For "The Witch"

The Bastard Four linked some gawd-awful (but entirely on topic) crap by a band called China Crisis, reminding us of Chinas Comidas, for whom we searched. Saw 'em at the Hong Kong Cafe once, don't remember their doing this one.V. O.:Note to de yout': If they ain't got a guitar or saxophone, they ain't worth a listen!

Wow- haven't heard that one in ages. Something tells me you'd probably like this guy's show.

I saw Chinas Comidas at the Hong Kong with Fear in October of '79. Were you at that show too?

Yep. Hallowe'en '79, wasn't it?

Was that the one where some band (The Mau-Maus?) were trying to throw a tee vee set out the big window that overlooked the plaza?

After the gig, as we staggered through the streets of Chinatown, a chola picked me up in her primer-gray early-'60s Impala & had sex w/ me in the Impala in an apartment bldg. parking lot.

Really nostalgic now. Gone are the days.

What about the Oil Tasters? No guitar, only drum bass and sax.

Musical Theory Editor Blithers:

Either/or, not and/or; both usually better.

That's a jazzbo line-up, even if it plays "rock&roll." Let's listen, though ...

Or a loon line-up. ("Smoke" was better for us. Does the vocalizer use something, or is it nature & a PA, period?)

Could have been confusing our dislike of wispy synth-pop vocals w/ instrumentation. Not enough wailing in either for our simple tastes.

BTW, WTF do we know?

Loon line-up is pretty close. Sax Player Caleb went on to do audio tech, including a long stint on soundboard for the Violent Femmes.

AFAIK, nature and a cheap PA was all that was necessary. Early 80's punk scene; who had cash for vocal effects?

Yeah, Halloween 1979, that was it! I remember the Mau Maus kicking a TV set into the audience, but was it at that show? Could've been, the memory fades after 30 years. No, come to think of it, that was another show, I think. Jesus, Bouff, you and I were going to the same gigs before we knew each other.
No sex for me on Halloween, I gave my roommate-to-be a ride home in my '66 Karman Ghia.

Yezzz, in retrospect the attempted tee vee toss gig wasn't as crowded as that Hallowe'en.

And see, automobilist, if we hadn't been on foot we would never have had an opportunity to get the clap or whatever.

Speaking of Mau-Maus, our close personal Facebook friend Rick Wilder has sent us an invite for 5 September at the Redwood Bar.

Rick invited you to Mau Maus "Lets Start The End Of The World" and says "ComE one, coMe aLL... Danse the NigHT away.... LasT giG B4 tHeiR iNaugural aLbum is unLeaShED upoN the unSuspecting plAneT. ".
