Dep't. Of Amplification

Immediately below we noted the problem of Superior Court Office No. 48, where the County Bar Association believes both candidates to be unqualified hack losers. So did the L.A. Times, which suggested voting for the candidate who is not Carol Rose, while maintaining a firm clamp on one's nose.
Office 48: Charles M. Calderon

If they could, voters would be wise to pick the two candidates for Office 22 and pass these two by, but that's not an option. Both Calderon, a member of the Legislature going back to the early 1980s, and Carol Rose, a veteran prosecutor, drew "not qualified" ratings from the Los Angeles County Bar Assn., a lawyers' group that investigates candidates and scores them on their fitness to serve.

Rose is a prosecutor with 30 years of courtroom experience — but a presence that could hardly be described as judicial. Even if her chatty and slightly scatterbrained demeanor is part of an act that she puts to good advantage when prosecuting cases, it is not appropriate for a judge who must command respect in the courtroom and make lawyers, litigants and defendants believe they are in competent hands. Defense lawyers complain that she doesn't always stick with an offer in plea bargaining.

Calderon hasn't tried a case in years. He wouldn't exactly be a stranger to the courtroom, but he left us with the impression that the bench was a place to go after legislative term limits finally caught up with him. In a race that should make voters sigh, The Times recommends Calderon.
Over ten million people in this county & the best available are a term-limited political hack & an A.D.A. who would appear to be a fucking liar? We need every fault line in the county to snap at once.

Somewhat later, wandering about for exercise & w/ an eye out for still more of the usual ignorant stupidity that makes all of existence in this world an exercise in futility I encountered this sign.
Self-described "Child Molestation Prosecutor" & apparent liar Rose couldn't even decide between #48 & #138? And we have a suspicion that Prosecutor Rose (or an immediate ancestor or other close relative) lives very near that sign. Because you'd have to be a fucking moron to support her otherwise. (I'm going to need a macro for "BRING ON THE METEORS!!" if things don't improve around here, & soon.)

This was a tough decision. I ended up voting for Rose, figuring she was slightly less of a crook and nutcase than Calderon.
