Davis (DE-136) is torpedoed and sunk by German submarine U-546, 570 miles east of Cape Race, Newfoundland 43°52'N, 40°15'W; but destroyer escorts Pillsbury (DE-133), Flaherty (DE-135), Chatelain (DE-149), Neunzer (DE-150), Hubbard (DE-211), Keith (DE-241), Janssen (DE-396), and Varian (DE-798) sink U-546, 43°53'N, 40°07'W.

Europe
German submarine U-1223 is sunk by USAAF and British aircraft at Wessermunde, Germany.

Pacific
USAAF B-24s sink Japanese motor sailship Shinyo Maru off coast of French Indochina.

Japanese tanker San Diego Maru is damaged by mine in swept channel of Hiroshima Bay, 34°06'N, 132°25'E.
