Nothing terribly new, though the author's pretty sure the Guns & Old People party is headed to extinction by 2020. But it probably won't kill you to look.
The Republican Party will vanish not because of what its says but because of what it believes, not because of how it presents itself but because of who it is when it thinks no one is looking.
I noted with some interest that the article you linked to was written by Steve ... Erickson. Couldn't be Erick's mirror universe twin, could it?
I hate a "both sides are just the same" attitude as much as anybody, but in this case ... holy cats, that was a page on the Internet whose level of stridency was challenged only by its cluelessness. Sure, we'd all like to imagine the (current incarnation of the) GOP going extinct, and in three years, no less, but all I can say to this Mr. Erickson is, Moonbat, please.
As long as there are really rich people, and they sure aren't going away anytime soon, there will be a party propped up by them to represent their interests, and there will be people employed by that party to advance those rich people's interests, and what such employees know better than anything else is that selling hate and fear always works.
A better bet: if the GOP doesn't win the White House in 2016, expect the GOP to double, quadruple, octuple (what are we up to now?) down on the crazy.

So, a literary type who can't help himself/knows no better. Or, strident.
You're probably correct about the Overton effect still working.
We should know better than to place foolish expectations in young people.

In fairness, no, it did not kill me to read it. But I felt it deserved some fairly vehement dismissal.
Which, for all I know, took five or ten minutes off my life, on top of those I spent typing.
