Ladies & germs, your White House Press Pool. |
The Xit from Andrew Feinberg is a reply to that lying hypocrite Ari Fleischer, seen farther down.S.V. Date / HuffPost:
The US political press has not dealt with autocrats working this hard to seize power; trading soft coverage for access could fail media audiences and democracy — WASHINGTON — We are not ready for this. — The Washington, D.C., press corps, used to playing small ball for small exclusives …Discussion:Joe Perticone / @joeperticone: Most of them, at least.Aaron Fritschner / @fritschner: “In this environment, trading soft coverage for better access is going to fail not just our various audiences, but American democracy itself.”@dwass: US journalists seem to do just fine calling out autocratic dictators in other counties. Why do they have such a problem when it happens in their own countries??Andrew Feinberg / @andrewfeinberg: You know who else is in the pool? @nypost, @DailyCaller, @DailyMail, @WashTimes, @dcexaminer. It's always been a mix from across spectrum based on which outlets have been willing to do the work. But you know this already because you're a former WH press secretary. So why lie?@svdate: HuffPost has traveled on AF1 with the sitting president for 10 years. It's part of the job. Oh, and it has paid for that seat, along with the rest of print pool.Brian Stelter / @brianstelter: At the White House, and at key agencies like the Defense Department, the plan is obvious: Punish traditional journalists who ask tough questions and promote a parallel universe of pro-Trump media outlets. [video]Liz Skalka / @lizskalka: My former colleague and HuffPost chief WH correspondent @svdate out with an opinion piece arguing that “trading soft coverage for better access is going to fail not just our various audiences, but American democracy itself.” https://www.huffpost.com/...@blueangie.bsky.social: “Before our very eyes, Donald Trump and his administration, with what so far has been an extraordinarily pliant Republican Congress, are taking those exact steps that autocrats who were initially democratically elected take to consolidate power.” — www.huffpost.com/entry/donald...Afra Kroon / @afrakroon.bsky.social: Trump made clear what he thought about democracy when he tried to end it four years ago by trying to overturn an election he had lost. — www.huffpost.com/entry/donald...Ari Fleischer / @arifleischer: The fact that HuffPost is in the pool proves the WH is right in making changes. HP is aggressively left wing, which is fine w the MSM. It's time to balance them w conservative media. White House Kicks Out HuffPost Reporter From Press Pool https://www.huffpost.com/...Walter Einenkel / Daily Kos: Hot mic catches Trump instructing Fox News host how to cover himIvan Maluski / @ruralindependent.bsky.social: I agree. The headline and what the head of the WHCA (ironically a Politico reporter) described did not line up. It looks like the WH has seized control of the pool process from the WHCA, so WHCA is making clear they aren't agreeing to or lending their credibility to this new state-run approach.
