It's a New World sparrow. Speedy bugger; 18 shots & only in these three was it still enough to be in focus.

Interesting little fellows:
To wit,
some groups became isolated enough to evolve new color variations in what scientists now believe is “one of the fastest cases of speciation known in vertebrates.” Our subject's an "Oregon" junco, which populates the Coast from Alyeska to Baja Cali, & go as far inland as Nevada. Apparently they're considered snowbirds in other parts.
