Halo Of (Fruit) Flies

Little bastards fly into the fridge & freeze.

  1. My sympathies. I recently had a minor infestation. I have no idea why, or how it got started.

I used the hose attachment on my vacuum cleaner every so often, when a cloud of them would appear about the kitchen sink, and I went full maniacal about keeping food sources unavailable -- no more leaving dirty dishes in the sink overnight, no more compost bin under the sink, like that. (I read somewhere on line that fruit flies only live for two days, so being a clean freak for a short bit seemed worth doing.) After a couple of weeks, the problem seemed to go away.

Good luck to you on whatever mitigation approach you choose!
