Chicago blues drummer and vocalist Sam Lay, who performed and recorded with Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and Bob Dylan, has died at age 86.
As a honky, I'm most familiar w/ Mr. Lay's work w/ the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.

Né à Birmingham, dans l’Alabama, Lay s’installe au milieu des années 1950 à Atlanta, où il met sa batterie au service de différents groupes locaux – le Moon Dog Combo, les Thunderbirds… – avant de migrer à la fin de la décennie à Chicago. Découvert par Little Walter qui l’intègre dans son orchestre, il ne tarde pas à se faire remarquer sur la scène locale et rejoint le groupe de Howlin’ Wolf, qu’il accompagne sur scène et en studio. La liste des classiques du Wolf auquel il contribue est longue: I Ain’t Superstitious, Shake For Me, Going Down Slow, New Crawlin’ King Snake, Down in the Bottom, The Red Rooster, 300 Pounds of Joy, Killing Floor…
