Perfect Fit For Freak-Out Friday!

John Ziegler, Sarah Palin leg-humper & now apparent defender of Penn State child rapist Jerry Sandusky (?????) & Penn State cover-up-er Joe Paterno*, so take anything he says w/ two grains of NaCl, has a theory of sorts, which is his, if not terribly original ("Oh, the anomie.") & while he doesn't know enough about the Vegas murderer to confirm all his suspicions, he notes what might keep some from

even thinking about committing such a horrible act. Among those, these are the most impactful:

– Having a basic sense of right and wrong and a belief that such things matter.

– Being young enough to where we have something to look forward to in the future.

– Having a spouse, or kids.

– Believing in an afterlife where you will be severely punished for evil acts on earth.

Not sure I agree w/ all points (Isn't marriage, let alone children already a post-life experience? I'd think responsibility for/incessant proximity to others alone would drive one to kill, & kill again!) or what actual bearing on action they may have but we are very amused to see that each of Ziegler's worry points fits me to the proverbial "T".

Afterlife? The late Reverend Ike: "Pie in the sky, by & by, when you die."

I have always believed that a healthy fear of an afterlife was the strongest factor keeping us from descending into total anarchy. As this belief/fear has quickly dissipated among significant parts of our country in recent years, I have often predicted that we would eventually see a substantial increase in serious crime among older people who, with no moral foundation, suddenly have nothing really to lose.

It sure seems that Paddock fit that profile perfectly. In him I fear that we have seen the very beginning of a potentially very dark future.

Any day now, any day now.
