  1. Spent a winter in 1978 in an off-broadway theatre on 23rd St. in Manhattan, working for $100 a week cash. The sound man kept playing Richie Havens on reel-to-reel during work calls. I have the sound of his voice etched in my brain. "Young Johnny with his rifle in his hand, marching to the Vietnam war."
