I find it very hard to leave the claim that SLBMs "Stabilized the Cold War" unchallenged. I'm going to suggest that the Cold War was 'stabilized' by the millions of troops facing each other along the "Iron Curtain". A nuclear exchange would be the RESULT of a disruption of that stability, not the cause of it...
