  1. I visited Death Valley in 1993, and it was unforgettable. My friends and I hiked down to Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America (it's about 282 feet below sea level). At the bottom, there was a salt flat, pure white salt stretching for quite a span. I had a half-inch of the stuff caked on the soles of my boots.

    Went to Death V. many Aprils ago. Not much salt, but still got quite grubby.
