Economic & potential military ("always been at war w/ ...") powerhouse or not, we're just nervous that there are over a billion people in a nuclear nation who seem to suffer from serious cognitive dissonance. How did they make the move from Mao & revolutionary communism to revolting capitalism w/in our lifetime?
