HI, M -- Yes, the fire station is at 4th & Wall... Beautiful buidling. I don't know anything about it, only that I saw it and it looked like such a beautiful building. What's your story?
It was used in Ghostbusters, also the crummy band we were in, Nation of Sheep, recorded a couple of songs there in 1983 or '84, this guy named Andre Champagne (really) had a 16-track studio on the second floor. We still wonder how he got the control board & tape deck up there.
I found a great photo of the building from the LA Public library photo collection. You probably already work with the LAPL collections, but if you go http://www.lapl.org/ and go to Photo collection & plug in Engine 23 it's the first photo up.
since the photos is dated 1980, I imagine it will be very evocative of that time.
also the LAFD has a historical page about it - looks like th station was taken out of use in 1960: http://www.lafire.com/stations/FS023/FS023_1910-1921-hd.htm
I might write a post about it, and will link to your blog.
I think that NOS recorded there in '85, as I recall D.B. and Buzz being together at the time. Oh yeah, Mr Mike was on guitar and I believe Dizzy Blackstein was pounding the tubs. It was before I got sober, cuz I recall getting pretty loaded on reefer during the session... P.
check this out - it's a made for TV movie filmed in the building. Lots of great interior shots. I'd be interested to know how much of that is recognizable to you guys.

there's a scene in the chief's office where you can see the marble mantelpiece mentioned in the LAFD historical web page.
