If a guy were cynical, I'm sure he could find something cynical to say about it, maybe make obscure references to obscure mid-twentieth century noir, maybe quote the closing sentences of Orwell's Animal House. If he were somewhat socialist he might not find the mid-nineteenth century gilded-age look appropriate on a "democratic socialist" or "social democrat" but it certainly looks good and you can't argue with the sentiment.
