Iconoclasting

Attention typists, bloviators & other culture disseminators: Could we have a moratorium on use of the word "iconic," w/ the possible exception of discussion of religious art found on the walls of Orthodox churches?

We've noticed its sudden overuse in just the last two wks. Or so. (Or two mos. Or six wks. All a blur now.)

Latest example, which finally set us off:

On the plus side, I was able to waltz up to the front row to see one of SXSW's biggest bookings of that year, Yoko Ono; on the downside, hardly anyone wrote about the iconic performer's disarming set, or much of anything else the festival was presenting that evening.

Did we notice early enough to nip it in the bud? Doubtful; you can't stop the stupid, let alone clichés & lazy usage.

NB: Use of clichés & laziness in this space is ironic w/ an "r."
