    I am thrilled, because I actually have some distaff connections with both Mickey Katz and Spike Jones.

    twenty or more years ago, my spouse had a colleague in the Music School at University of Washington who once played with Spike Jones - he was a trombonist, and - yes - had to do the thing where when they extended the slide their pants came down and then came back up when they pulled the slide back in. It all had to do with suspenders, he told us.

    Also, I am privileged to have met both of Mickey Katz's sons - the actor Joel Gray and the less famous Ron Katz, a philanthropist.

    Plus, the place where I work has a history of being connected to Mickey's early stage shows of the '60s, "Hanukkhah in Santa Monica" and the "Borscht Capades."
