Close Call, Borrowed Time

Intersection where we (& others) came close to death early in 1983.

  1. What happened in 1983?

I remember moving from New Haven to Queens, and *eventually* getting a job (sweating the rent until that happened). In other words, same old, same old.

Oh, thought it was self-explanatory. Here in the center of the universe, we're likely to be in an accident every 6.8 yrs.

Anyway, a Cadillac t-boned the VW Micro-Bus (Class warfare?) we all were in, flipping the VW onto its roof & popping the gas tank. Didn't explode, 'though, & all got out alive. No fun coming to after being tossed around in the back (no seats, like taking a ride in a dryer) & waking up to the smell of gasoline!

"Victory" was not what first crossed our mind as we returned to consciousness.
