Will it take food shortages for the American public to pull its head from its ass? These alarming job trends were not caused by the financial collapse that began in 2007. Rather, the prolonged recession revealed deep structural changes in the U.S. economy that reflect a gross imbalance between a corporate elite and ordinary working people.
So if you want to know why the Democratic Party did so badly in the 2010 midterms, it's because the administration lacked a plausible story about how to alter these basic dynamics. And it lacked that story because it was unwilling to challenge the corporate business model that disdains American workers. In light of that reality, the latest gestures by the president to show the business elite just what a good fellow he is are not just disappointing, but they are foolish politics.

I've been reading about 19th Century England working conditions. Boys up chimneys and the rest. Fucking inhuman bastards who would still be doing it if the odd rich person had not had a shred of decency.
ReplyDeleteThe spirit is still alive and well, of course and even when given the fancy names of enlightened self interest or whatever. I saw it up close when I worked for the international soft drinks manufacturer. Union crushing was the main aim of the management. And I got in trouble for just mentioning wading through the blood of the tyrants. I ask you, no sense of humour.
Topper Editor Brags:
ReplyDeleteHah. We were axed (from a semi-international bookstore chain) merely for stating that we had to "get out of here before I kill someone."
Mr. ™32®©, are you post-employed? (Haven't been keeping up.) Find a disability!

ReplyDeleteIt's hard to imagine shortages when we've proven we'll eat anything.
Culinary Editor Agrees:
ReplyDeleteMostly shit. Raw.
