Dave Alvin has a personal reminiscence/obit of Bo Diddley hither, & there's a lengthy front-page obit in the print version of the cage-liner. Most impressive Diddley achievement? Bo had three great-great-grandchildren. That's two "greats."And perhaps the most useful thing the Times has done since publishing restaurant closures from the Health Dep't.; a list of songs w/ "The Beat," & YouTube links thereto. That should fill the rest of your day.

ReplyDeleteHope you're kidding. Take a good look at the suckahs on Bo's right, & think back +/- 25 yrs. Extra hint: One of them pre-deceased Mr. Diddley.
They actually opened for Bo, in '79 at the Santa Monica Civic. Is that one of Jenny's photos?

ReplyDeleteWe don't think it's one of Jenny's. When we were housed we had literally hours to look for just the right image, & being a big Clash fan as well as a Bo Diddley fan, when we found this while illustrating Mr. Diddley's stroke item we went for it. (Like the Willaim S. Burroughs & F. V. Zappa picture somewhere below.) And as it is therefore easily available to us, we used it again.
Indeed, had we taken it from Ms. Lens we would have fully credited her, as she likes.
Actually, the Clash was my first guess, but you never know with those 70s punks......
